View Full Version : Rim-Lighting & Normal maps. 2 Q's in 1
hawken 02-19-2008, 02:47 AM I'd like to have a stab at normal mapping.
I'd like to have a stab at rim lighting effects (as seen in mario galaxy)
Are either of these things possible in cinema4d? Does anyone have experience or secrect tutorials? Because I'm coming up blank.

Bleh, yet another hey-you-dont-have-nintendo -post :(
I may be forgetting words and terms here but what's rim lighting?
PS: You dont happen to mean a light that is shot from behind of the target, or from silhoutte, like sun through a window to someone's sideview. I'd boost it up with Fresnel in the shader.

Well if putting a light behind an object isn't good enough for rim lighting :/
I guess you could do it procedurally, I use a procedural rim light effect that is a fresnel mixed with the backlight shader.
as for the normal map effect, put it in the normal map channel. might be good to research what the two things are and possible use the search function in the online help.
