Hi guys,

I attended a 3DS Max demo today - the presenter kept going to the Design menu at the top = but when I look at my max, it doesn't show up.

That menu had commands - Create Camera from Angle, Panoramic Render, etc.

anyone have any idea where thi is? or is this a new feature for Max 6?

The guy said it was available in Max 5.

that would be the design extensions that are available for download at the discreet site for subscription members

Interesting. Anyone try it out? I'm going to have to investigate further at discreet but I won't be near my max until the weekend since I'm working out of town atm:annoyed:

Any screen shots to post?

Forbidden by the subscription plan. Nobody talks. Bummer.

Official info about the plan.

Personally I'm still looking for reasons why this isn't a ploy by Discreet to get even more money out of its users :)

and why are the dogs bollocks of cg acting so secret about it :surprised

I mean, they're telling us to get the subscription for reasons they can not say . . .

IF it's all only about money, and say the subscription is good for getting a free 5.5 update [or something], then why NOT tell people what they get for the subscription

more over, why people have to pay for updates in general is beyond me anyhoo . . . as long as it's not a full release, it's a point-release, which IMO should be free to everyone as a service from the developer for the users trust in their application . . .

one thing i just noticed using the design menu, it feels if importing a dwg is slightly better supported / faster using the

file link manager.

I think by making max users get a subscription is discreet's way of possibly catching warez monkeys;)

The way one subscriber put it was that it was ultimately cheaper than the cost of an upgrade every 18 months. Plus you get the extra goodies. Some people were hinting about testing betas of new features.

Then there are the hints that Discreet is quickening the release schedules. But I'd take that with a grain of salt, as every release seems to have been around 3 months late anyhow.

I think it may be a way to get rid of the whole local-reseller issue, since subscriptions would slowly edge them out.

Our local reseller told me that you have to opt for the subscription service at the time of your purchase or upgrade. I hadn't know that and I guess now, according to him, I'll not be able to participate.

Something stinkks. :annoyed:

Yeah. Well the reason for that is to stop a flood of people from signing up for subscription service just before a major release.

Although I think it is also to guarantee a constant revenue stream, rather than the spurts you get on releases.

Well, cnsidering the subscription service does cost money, you'd think Discreet would welcome subscribers regardless of when they sign up.

I guess I'msimply bitter because this option wasn't offered to me at the time of purchasing the software. I can almost positively say I would have signed up for the service had I known otherwise.

There was some grousing about that too. Can't recall what they said, but I think Discreet might do you right if your dealer didn't offer it.
