Hello, has anyone tried this book yet?
http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Autodesk-Official-Training-Guide/dp/1897177380/ There's only a handful of reviews out there

I understand these are mostly superficial updates each year and far from essential but I've never bought one so I figured it would be a good foundation. I'm sure there are good pre-2007 books so feel free to recommend if you think they might be better.

The only real competition I can see on Amazon is the following from Tereza Flaxman http://www.amazon.com/Maya-Character-Modeling-Animation-Graphics/dp/1584504404 but the reviews suggest it's a bit more fundamental than the Autodesk book.

I don't really want to support Autodesk press because they make enough money as it is, but I'm leaning towards them this time.

BUMP: Well I took the plunge and found the book to be excellent, there's a review on Amazon UK if you're interested.

Maybe someone will find this useful in a search sometime.

I bought the book and the Special Effects Handbook as well. They both seem to be thorough and will teach me a lot.
