View Full Version : Character: WaterElemental
Max4d 05-01-2003, 05:59 PM Hello guys,
After getting some comment on my heads and the rising suggestion of making body’s I decided to actually make a body. Well, if I thought that drawing a head is difficult, just try making a body. I chose for a waterelemntal. This way, I didn’t have to make hands or feet :D:D
I must say that I ripped the design from the blizzard departement and I know that’s not very creative but to me it was also a practise on body and on shading. The head of the elemental is on purpose this small. The abodimanls truly suck in my opnion, have to do some serious studying on that departement. In my opinion, I think the whole buddy sucks, but I hope that experience and time will solve this problem.
I truly hope you guys wil give me some comment on how to serious improve. I think I could use that kind of critisism very well because this body looks like shit to me :D:D.

I see what you mean about back or front.. the anatomy is bit too creative.. I really like the shading though but as far as it being a water elemental I don't get it???

Waar is zn hoofd?
Binnenkort het vervolg>?:applause:
zie je wel weer op school :wip:

Hello guys,
Thx for the comments. I know the design is heavily influenced by Blizzard, but I already told that, didn’t I :D. This is my first body and I did it also as an experiment to learn the anatomy of a body. What you guys are looking now is the front side, he has no face on purpose. The muscles are maybe a bit too much visible, but like I said… practise ….:D:D
Please post more comment

Hey guys
Here is my first coloring try ever, I thought it would be a good practise for me to make a colored version of my waterelemental. Well… it proved to be a good practise and I learned much from it, especially how much I suck in the way of coloring a character :D:D. I used Caran D’ache color pencils, but man, they are very hard to handle. I need to learn very much in that direction. Also I redrew the abdominals and other stuff. I think I will improve this image tonight, better color harmony and stuff.
Therefore I would like some commend from you guys on how to improve my characters and posing, shading and other stuff. I also did some tests as you can see and I found out that the green-yellow color sceme( on the right side of the pic) would be great, but I was to late to apply ity on the posing elemental.
Further, these images were made with digital camera, but they all got blurred and I had to sharpen them with photoshop. The quality is not the same as the drawing in real life.
Hope to get some comment

Hey it improved alot since my last comments. THough some more comments still (ghhehe). Hmmm, i should especially look at the anatomy of the arms. I've never seen so much muscles on one arm, and the are mostly in the wrong place. Don't try to over-do it on the muscles, on the whole character. Then there's something strange about the waste, the way how it flow's over in the lower part of his body. btw, the lower part is very nice.
And i've never seen muscles on the sides of someones waist, maybe i don't know the prper anatomy of a water elemental, but it looks kinda strange.
One last thing, why did you color the whole body in blue? the are more colors, at least when i last had my eyes open (long time ago though)
Keep it up, and be sure to post the next version. This one was improved alot, keep improving it and you'll get yourself a masterpiece. It'll be alot of work drawing it over and over again though. Maybe it's an idea to sketch it untill you think it's entirely perfect. Post these sketches and use the comment to improve it further. Then color the last version, and voila, you've got yourself a nice drawing.
Keep it up m8

Cool man, i had no clue from the b&w what you were doing, but the color tests rock! I think make the head a bit bigger and tweak the hands some more and you've got one really cool character.
