I've been looking forward to this challenge. Looks to be a lot of fun!

Working on brainstorming sketches now and have hammered out my character's origin:
Artifact Weapon: Two-handed long sword - Air/Lightning
Kierkeguard's home land unexpectedly became the host to a wormhole, sacked by invading metal creatures, and her birth family kidnapped. She was then saved and raised by an ancient-magical race that was dying out due to the fading effects of the "ultimate weapon". Due to their impending extinction they wanted to pass on their magical knowledge, so they entrusted Kierkeguard with their treasured heirloom(an Artifact sword). That heirloom was a holy object to them, but because of Kierkeguard's flesh and blood form, she is able to unlock it's vast Artifact powers. The ancient-magical race trained her as a Clericon, and before thier time was up, they entrusted her to noble nomads. So, Keirkeguard has issues and can become quite angsty!
She now serves as a type of uber-powerful combat medic. She typically flies up to a wounded ally, uses powerful hurricane strength winds to push enemies back, and has lighting attacks for defense, as she heals her teammates. Another of her signature moves is to use strong winds to pin an enemy up against a wall/ground while she uses a spell, from her artifact , to dramatically reduce their defense which enables her teammates to attack and decimate.
She travels with different war units, through various wormholes, as a combat healer and uses the expansive travel through different worlds to search for her original family, fight for her planet, and get revenge against the metal creatures!
hope to see the first scetches soon!
all the best

I second the cool story, can't wait for sketches!

Gune and System404 - Thanks for the encouragement. Any feedback on the sketches is appreciated.
Here's my first batch of brainstorm sketches. Now that I've got a rough direction I'm going to step back and focus on silhouette value.
yeah, cool story.
That is one sexy sketch!
First small thing that caught my eye is that her sword handle is a bit too thin.
I love the hair in the full body sketch, also the hair on the tiny thumb.
An idea is to give her a staff (also for whacking :) ) instead of a sword.
That could emphasize her being a healer type.

looking good so far bro!
02-21-2008, 02:47 PM
Looking good, lots of energy! I like the cool cylindrical hip pack thing she has.
I'd push the air lightning theme a bit more. Add more whispyness to her armor, and whether you go with a staff or a sword... make it look less heavy. Think of a slim maneuverable Chinese sword rather than a rigid broadsword.

I adore your style and her design! Can't wait to see it finished! Excellent
really great!!! only crit is the frontal looking head is a bit to much man like, just my opinion... but the rest looking really promising!!
not much to say from me, the story is nice and the character is looking good. Overall its appealing and fun!

Nice concept, I like the details. The head dress is really cute, I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
02-29-2008, 05:17 AM
Man, I wish we could model off of concepts! This is reminding me a bit of Frezzato's work on the Maser series. If you aren't familiar, you should be. Keep it up, can't wait to see more.

Another great stuff in CGtalk
looking forward to your update

Good work so far. I lke your drawing style...:)
03-03-2008, 12:04 AM
Art2, Bluefley, JediHindu, SashaP, Gune, KP, kukut27, SheriffNotic, BenEoff, YongWei, and cyberarts thanks for the comments. :D
Starting to nail down some shapes I like with thumbnail sketches. Adding in some post-apocalptic gear to help the design not get stuck with a purely fantasy feel. I want there to be a bunch of utilitarian details in her armor/clothes while having an overall fun sword n' sorcery fantasy shape. Also playing with varied artifact weapons. Now I'm going to mix and match the different aspects I like, streamline the shapes to solidify her, and also focus on the facial characteristics.

i love 1, 9, 20, 24 and 30!
03-03-2008, 01:15 AM
26 and 25.
Btw, really dig your drawing style!
Also have to give you props for putting out 30 quality thumbs like that...
1, 24, 8, 25. I dig them a bunch. But yeah I agree with the others in saying that your work is very insperational. I checked your blog out, awesome stuff there as well.
I like 1 to 30.
hope that helps...
03-03-2008, 11:06 AM
I'm overwhelmed by the amount of thumbnails and their quality
I like 3 (especially for the head part), 5, 14, 9, 22
03-03-2008, 01:17 PM
great stuff man! I'll be watching
03-03-2008, 01:35 PM
Great sketches so far! Some of them feel a bit like they're tending towards the techno, which I imagine you would want to avoid. For example, the headpieces in #17, 24, and 25. I like the headpieces on #9 and 11 because they cut an interesting silhouette, but 21 is nice just 'cause I like the goggles, which really say post-apocalyptic well.
As for clothing, I like #6, 18, #20, and #25. #8 too if you covered up her cleavage. Generally, myself, I like the ones that are functional without being too blatantly revealing (and impractical in battle) - Either do the scantily-clad maiden thing and strip her down to a bikini, or give her something functional with not all that much skin showing... in my opinion. :) Anyhow, great pics so far, looking forward to seeing where you go with 'em!
03-03-2008, 03:28 PM
Hey, gotta agree with the drawing style, really nice!
Think that some of the designs are tending towards a powersword look but if you can get maybe more of a 'crafted' look to it instead, i reckon you're on your way to an awesome concept!
you got any ideas for poses yet!?
03-03-2008, 08:22 PM
very very nice.. I like them all.. except maybe 13... Sorry can't be more help than that.
03-03-2008, 08:28 PM
17 and 25. Great start!
2BenEoff - agree, i wish i could model of those
03-03-2008, 08:44 PM
respect ... @_@ really good and wating to see some more :scream:
03-04-2008, 07:08 AM
good work with the thumbs isaac! A lot of great options. I think I like 5 the best though! it has some of the more unique shapes, as compared to the rest.
03-04-2008, 02:44 PM
Nice work Isaac!
Let's see.... hmmm...
6, 8, 9, 16, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 29. Usually I'm for the more functional less "bikini with armor" style of fantasy. You can still make a sexy character without showing skin. Sometimes "sexiness" is from the pose, the face, and the general attitude rather than the titillation of seeing cleavage etc.
But there's still something to be said for just fun character designs that don't have to be "functional". So either way I think will work!
I'd say my least favorites are:
1, 12, and 13...
But really they're all great designs! Can't wait to see the progression!
wow u are really efficient, no wonder a Senior in Raven.
Which btw, so many ppl from Raven are replying and participating, awesome!
03-06-2008, 03:38 AM
Great dump of sketches Isaac! They are so fluid and they look great together on a page. 9, 11, and 17 are my favorite :). Keep it up dude!
03-06-2008, 04:06 AM
Holy.. ****, that is alot of top notch sketches right there. I can't decide... but all of those sketches look very sexy, cheers.
03-07-2008, 12:25 PM
Well, they're all superb. Your line work is outstanding. If i had to plump for one above the others, i think i'd go for 19 - something really scarab-like about her armour.
Can't wait to see more of this, good luck!

03-10-2008, 05:18 PM
Thanks for the comments all. :)
Here are some concept sketches for Kierkeguard's artifact weapon. I've decided to stick with a two-handed sword.
03-10-2008, 05:26 PM
Really interesting :scream: I liked the last three set of swords more mechanical look and kind of tell the story of 1000 year after the technology is gone ... liked the way they function:wise:
03-10-2008, 06:24 PM
Nice swords! love the 2nd and the 6th, has interesting design and gimmick to it=)
I like the function of the sixth one but I also like the look of the second blade. Except the handle on the second one feels a little to thin. Nice concepts and linework :D
03-10-2008, 10:57 PM
Nice try Buckster, but she could use a bit more Cyber! like some chrome breasts.
Dude! That's a great idea! I'm gonna go home now and airbrush my bumper cars!
Do you still go to drawing group?
03-13-2008, 12:25 AM
Sweet stuff Isaac! Your avatar is cracking me up :)
03-13-2008, 04:06 PM
Wow, the girl thumbnails are so great, love designs very much, most I like number 8, that one is awesome. Good luck!
03-24-2008, 11:26 AM
saint-max, kukut27, KP,and rawwad - Thanks for the comments. I've decided on sword #6 because the nod-to-tech levers and overall shape.

jbradford - Thanks!

03-25-2008, 12:25 PM
