Katachi 05-01-2003, 02:23 PM Hello folks,
I now also have a private homepage online.
You can find it here: http://www.3ddesigner.net
I dare to say that it´s very much cinematic ;)
Crits are welcome.
P.S.: Modem users might want to get a coffee while the site is loading :)

He, he, pretty cool idea!
I think it’s fun for a C4D user, but navigation was a bit confusing even for me at first, and the average user may not really get it ever. I say this because the toolbar icons [drag, scale, rotate] don’t do anything, and the tabs for the picture viewer don’t do anything.
Besides that, I think that if you fine-tuned the site it would be cool. IMHO:
1. lose the tabs for “picture viewer” and “perspective view”. It looks like these are selectable links but they are not.
2. pick a better color theme! I use the “Mac” color scheme in R8 and I like that a lot. If you don’t have R8, maybe someone can FWD you some screenshots to represent C4D better.
3. I would put the navigation bar to the left, it seems odd for a website to have the contents links on the right to me
4. I would make the “character”, “drawings”, etc. links turn the green model dot on when you are on that link, and keep the red on the red dot on for the links that you are not at..
5. then I would get rid of the null objects [artwork, model, tuts] red & grey dots altogether because they are not really links.
6. either get rid of the toolbar icons or make them smaller and then PS some custom icons to coordinate w/your navigation links so that you can click on the icons that correspond to the links [characters, drawings, etc.] to navigate the site.
7. I have a cable hook-up, but even for me the navigation area seemed slow on the refresh every time I shoes a new link.
Thanks for sharing. Hope this helps.

They will. :)

hehe, I guess that´s a matter of taste. I don´t like the MAC color scheme. And yes, I do have R8. ;)

You do have your OM on the left in cinema 4D??? I guess you are one of a few that work like this in Cinema. This is the default cinema layout afai can remember.

?? they are. Click on them. They link to a site that explains what this section is about and gives copyright notices etc.. Very important links!

That wouldn´t be Cinema like (navigation). Not all things have to link to something in a website, they are just there to give the feeling of being in C4D somehow. And to be honest, for those are interactive tools it would confuse some people even more than the navigation in the OM which is an essential part in Cinema 4D.

The pictures are preloaded and should be cached once they are loaded. But yes, it might not be the fastest solution. Nature of the beast.
Thanks for sharing. Hope this helps.
for sure. Thanks for your comments and ideaas.

Nice concept, although I immediately noticed the whole navigation bar changes when you move the cursor over the buttons, this means you have to load 14x 29 kb. That's too much.
Why don't you slice the navigation image up and only use the mouse-over pictures where it's needed: the button itself (and not the entire menu). This would mean you have to have a lot of slices and a table. A lot of work, but worth it.
Even better would be to just use a background image for the navigation bar (the same as now, just without the text/buttons) and use plain text hyperlinks positioned well with a mouseover effect. This is probably the best solution.
