View Full Version : Script : Repeat Object on Spline
Joel Hooks 05-01-2003, 02:20 PM I am making a train tracks, and the ties are killing me. Is there a script that will repeat the same object down a spline? Or would it be easy to script myself? Thanks!

I'm not in front of my max atm but isn't there an Array along a spline/path? Either check the Array menu or in the modifier list. I'll need to confirm when I get to work...

Not in the stock Max. That I can see anyway. Maybe I am missing something.

I won't likely be able to get at max until tomorrow:annoyed: to confirm where I saw that (or imagined it).
Have you checked over at Script Spot (http://www.scriptspot.com) ?

lowdown,
If I understand your question correctly, you have two options
assuming you have a path (Line01) and an object to copy along the path (Box01):
1.
- assign a path-controller to the position of Box01
- set it to 'follow' the spline
- use the 'snapshot' tool (pulldown menu Tools) to generate copies of Box01
2.
- select Box01 and open the 'Spacing Tool' (also under the 'Tools' menu)
- then press 'Pick Path' on the dialog that appears.
Like signal said, the second option is the easiest, and also a bit more flexible because it shows a preview
Hope this helps

I think magicm's #2 solution is what I was trying to recall.
I'm going to check anyway but hopefully you'll get it sorted out earlier, lowdown. Good luck!

Thanks Martijn, that spacing tool is precisely what I needed.
Many thanks!
