Title: Maya 2008 & MR Portal Light lighting Study.
Name: Alex Sandri
Country: Thailand
Software: Maya, mental ray

I created this image a few months ago with Maya 2008 MR Physical Sky/Sun & Mia X Materials, to demonstrate 2 different approach of using the Portal Light in MR.
The 3D model of the Loft comes from the Evermotion collections, and was almost completely remodeled by me to optimize it for MR & Maya software.

Cheers...!

Thanks a lot for the feedback...!
I post here the second image that shows another approach to lighting in MR, using Portal Lights.
For the first image I used the Light Card approach,
and for the second I used the standard Mia_Physical Sky approach.

While this is among the most hideously styled interiors I have ever seen ( one can only hope that you had a caricature in mind), the light distribution and quality is very clean and something rarely seen in MR interiors.
Did you use additional AO in this? Looks like that in the ceiling parts.

Benjamin

:deal:
Dear Benjamin, I used an AO pass composited in Multiply mode at 30% in Photoshop,
as well as a Zdepht pass and Shadow pass.
(Thanks to Puppet for his very useful PShaders for Maya & MR).
