Having been inspired by Dan and Squidinc's work, I thought I'd try to do a robot as well. There are some some areas of uneveness on the surface near the eye pack--will have to iron that out. I have barely done and texturing to it yet, but I kinda like the clean look of it for now.

you HAVE to give this spider legs, that would so freakin cool (and original, as I haven't seen one like that here at all)
otherwise, if its humanoid, the rest of the body is going to have to be insanely detailed :D

Thanks all!

And, Squidinc, I actually HAD considered the spider legs/crab approach. Not sure yet? we'll see ...

EDIT--"I HAVE actually HAD considered..." sheeesh--guess I need sleep.

I like the clean look of the current textures (or lack there of).
Is there going to be wires or something going to the ..uh.. glowy-thingies near the eyes? right now they seem kinda stuck on.
Can't wait to see the body for this

JoelD....thats damn cool and well original...really like it...does remind me of half fan heater with the vents bit and the black n decker sander thing...with the shape...but i really like it...as for the body a toughie...personally i'd go for humanoid shape...same panelling detailing...and a broader...bulkier feel to it on the body...mainly caused by the panelling....kinda like aibo dog panelling but not so round...keep that bevel/squared feel.

good job...and hurry goddamn it....i wanna see how you get on...on a personally note...the spider legs...not my scene...but i'm sure you'll carry it off whatever you decide...also i would ban all wheels! heh heh.

(ps. had another thought you could go for the limbs and joints to be those really heavy well engineered rotators...very chrome...no fine parts...but very solid looking...and very expensive looking...i'll try and find a reference pick of the joint i mean... )

Thanks guys.

I need to sit down and sketch out some designs before proceeding. This kinda just happenned--didnt really have a plan--just started extruding a cube and did whatever I thought looked cool. The planning stuff is always hardest for me as I tend to just go with the flow.

Oh, and if you want to find reference flingster, please do! :)
