View Full Version : KartSim screenshots
ZachGriffin 02-14-2008, 10:47 PM Hey guys, Myself and a programmer have been working on this for around 2 years and I have just finished writing the shaders and creating the ingame assets. The average tri count per frame is around 480,000tris running between 60-70fps @ 1440*900 with 8xAA and 16xAF on an 8700m GT. Each tyre is an individual mesh for use with the physics engine as they are dynamic and can be knocked about, as with the barrels and umbrellas. Radiosity has also been baked into all objects. Some of the textures haven't been completed yet in particular the sky as it is also dynamic and simulates and transitions between different weather effects seamlessly.
EDIT: You can also keep track of the game by logging onto www.KartSim.com and entering your details in the announcement list.

Nice Renders, is it only the one track? I dont mean, only, Im not trying to denounce what you have accomplished here. That's a lot of work for 2 guys and it looks great! Does your programmer create any of the art assets?

Thanks for the comments guys.
@J-RBeans
At the moment we have nearly completed that track there and are moving on to the next one. The main reason for the lengthy development apart from only being 2 developers is the amount of time taken to design the game framework. I have created all the art assets and shaders, and the programmer everything else. We have it such that every kart model can customized with a different engine and data logger and tyres. Also the tools we have developed, allow us to tag certain objects for physics functionality etc. Those shots aren't renders btw; thats real time in-game;)

Looks great, can't wait to see the other tracks. One thing, in the first shot on the left side of the track near the middle of the shot, the white line doesn't line up. Otherwise great work.

Looks great! I love nothing better than an engine that makes art look good. Can't wait to see how this turns out.
