Hey Keith,
It looks really good. You've done a great job of tightening down the motion style to be nice and consistent. Very solid stuff.
Congrats on finishing school and for completing such a solid piece of work. Here's hoping your job hunt goes well from this point forward....
;)
Talk to you later!

Great Work man!!!
My wife and I just watched it a few times and loved it. Very funny stuff, and polished too. Great, great work!

Ahaha, that's great stuff :)
I really dig the crying 18 seconds into the clip, it's very well executed. Turbo-Crying Mode engaged and everything.
I didn't think the goo from the green fat baby came off too clearly, it was a nice scene in theory, but I think the timing is off.. or.. well, the drop just ends up lacking punch I thought. The editing there is nicely done to build up the tension, it's obviously leading up to a facial impact, but when it does happen it wasn't until he wiped it off that I went "huh, oh, it hit him already".

Now that's what I call amazing!!!
Very Expressive. Sharp and solid movement. It flows with punch. smooth models.
Don't have a criticism about the art at all. Only thing is the one gap in the music before the tenacle comes out is a little too silent. Maybe some light bells sound to count it off.
Great work they are doing at Ringling.

amazing! One question... Did you animate that frame by frame , I mean like traditional animation ? Some parts?

Great work! It's a really nice story, funny as well. It is clear your goal was a nice animation instead of photorealism and I can't find anything wrong with the animation. Everything flowed very nice and maintained a consistent style of movement.
I agree that the big glob of spit from the green baby could have been more "noticiable". Maby make it yellowish or something so that we can see it better.

Good job, and keep up the way you do those things ;)
GREAT WORK wow
i'm applying to ringling. great story telling skills. very very very well done love the animation to ringling students are yet to unimpress me:thumbsup:      5 thumbs up great stuff

good idea = funny short, very entertaining ...
the only crit i can give is that the squid arm looked kind of off - try putting those suction cup thingies on the lower arm, you know what i'm saying?
good job, and the first camera angle that pans from the crying baby to the father (before he sees the baby changing station)is a great shot btw

Damn man, that was great! :buttrock:
I don't ever want to meet your kids, but that was great...
The comment about the saliva is exactly what I was going to say, beaten to it though. Maybe a more multicoloured soap bubble type thing that makes a splash when it hits would work clearer... I dunno. Best animation I've seen in a while though. Congratulations!

Ain't THAT the truth?!?
For some reason I kept thinking of the Chubb Chubbs short while I was watching this. Must be the facial features and lighting/texturing style.
(That's not a put down nor is it saying that this work seemed derivative at all. I am not saying that.)
Really wonderful... I'm telling all of my friends and coworkers to check it out now.
Congratulations on such a wonderful project.

Grrrrrrrreat!
I love the way sort of jumps, stretches and cries once he's sitting on the baby changing station. (about sec 18).
As someone else asked, how long did it take you? which were the hardest parts? tell us a bit more about how you made this...

I gotta say I'm quite humbled by all the kind words. It's really encouraging and very much appreciated.
Keith Lango: Thanks! I've often been inspired by your work and your tutorials have been tremendously helpful in my progress as an animator.
Gaggle, Stephen 2002 and Sforsyth: Ah yes, the drool - it was challenging trying to find a shader that would make it more visible and still look like babies drool (I have plenty of reference material). Unfortunately, it was one of the last things I worked on and due to deadlines, I had to leave it as is. It's not too bad on a TV but it gets really lost on a movie file.
AVTPro: That's a good suggestion for the gap in the music. I added an echo to help bridge the gap because it initially sounded like the soundtrack accidentally cut off. I suppose something more might be needed. Thanks!
Ac0rN: Frame by frame? No. It was almost exclusively done pose to pose pop-through (thanks Keith Lango). I had a pretty clear idea of what he was going to do in each shot so I just blocked it in and went from there.
Nath: Yeah, it's been the invasion of the Ringling students on the CGTalk forum. Hopefully, it's welcome. I'm totally honored to be in the same graduating class as the others who have posted.
Edaddy: I thought about adding suction cups to the squid arms but just ran out of time. In the animation stage, someone commented that they thought it was a tongue. That's not what I was going for (not that there's anything wrong with that) and suction cups would have definitely helped out.
Julez4001: Yeah, lighting is my weak point. It's something that I really don't quite grasp yet.
PEN: Congrats on the birth of your baby! It's a wild and fun ride.
Woodwoox: We start the process in the second semester of our Junior year where we develop the story, characters and design. The senior year is devoted to production and that's done in stages (modeling, rigging, animation, lighting and post). We have roughly 4 to 6 weeks on each stage.

I see only animation credits, can you post a full list of credits, or did you do everything?

I can tell a great amount of effort and thought went into this one. I love the timing and the music and everything worked well. The baby drool wasn't clear enough like someone mentioned, but it played out :). Poor babies in the change room thingy tho :p erm I mean poor adults :p Nice work

it's very impressive to see all of these high quality pieces coming out of schools right now. this one seems to have really nice animation to boot. a great job with taking a simple set and a few characters and making everything feel much bigger then just a short. nice polished look to the whole thing as well.

Here's the wire of the model (low-res poly version).

Rich Suchy: While I did the actual work in creating the short, I'm certainly not the only one responsible for it's creation. Without the help and support of my faculty, fellow classmates, friends and family, my thesis would likely be just a concept.

Love it. You're a damn pro. Where'd you learn to design a story like that? Did they teach you that at Ringling or is it self taught?
Please explain :)
Original story well animated - keep it up!

Spike: Story/concept is a huge part of the Ringling curriculum. Most of the critiques focus on whether or not the story is reading so it's really hammered into us :wip:
Mystifyurmind: My daughter's name is Savannah. We wanted to name her after an art school but Ringling just didn't do it for us ;) I think I know exactly what you mean regarding competition. Within Ringling there's compettion among the students but it's not so much a thing of "Hey, I can do better" but more along the lines of "Wow, that's amazing what your doing - that inspires me to develop my craft further". I've been inspired plenty of times by my fellow classmates as well as the work that's posted on this board. I'm honored to have inspired you. :)

There's not much else left to say, but cheers for the entertainment!
Very tightly held together and shows maturity that is often lacking in Gruduate animation.
It's been said that a school acts only as a conduit but I think that good teachers, strong structure and access to good facilities makes all the difference to the quality of students. (You never hear of the Great Masters learning from a book, or being taught by poor teachers!)
Any thoughts?

Absolutely stunning.............. the humour in this is great...looking at it from a traditional animation view...not even going into the technical ability that went into it... it's just such a cool little anim....the expressions in the faces are fantastic.... and you have given the models real character..(reminds me a bit of tin toy by John Lassiter and not just because there's babies in it : ).... i loved the green slobbering baby (i've been covered in enough baby slob in my time to know how that feels : )
the fact that it follows a cool little story is really good (most computer anims you see are just anims for anims sake) ..... this must have taken months of planning):bounce:
