Hello guys, we are in too!!!

We all work together at the same company based on Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. So we'll try to use our freetime to complete this mission. We are new to CG challenges and we just want to escape from the day work and have some fun!!!

We are going to shoot some live action with a mini-dv mixed with 3d elements and some camera mappings.

The idea is to make a teaser with our version for the prophecies around 12/21/2012. So we're going to create a short sequence of these last moments.

We have just finished the script and we'll post some pictures of the storyboard.

Good fun to everyone!!!

Looking great guys. May i ask how you went about doing the atmosphere? was it done in post? or in 3d/maya? I'm having some issues on my end doing it in maya and thinking maybe to add it in post.

Keep it up!

Thiago-Pires

Thanks George,

Yes, it was done in post, actually all the atmosphere scene (meteor with particles) was done with photoshop, combustion and flame.

For the other space scenes (scene02 and scene06) we are using photoshop, after effects and maya.
Everything goes to post-prodution for the final look...

How did you do the storyboard? Is it handmade?
Because I have no idea how to do such a thing like a drawn storyboard. You sketch it by hand and scan it?

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh157/thiago-pires/BANNER_SETPIXEL.jpg?t=1203117512

Thanks, Limbi!
I made the storyboard and I really apreciate this kind of work. I prefer to sketch before, but many artists prefer to draw direct in computer. I use photoshop to edi and to colorize. I have more control when I use pencil and paper, but the secret to make a good work is to use lots of reference! Search for pictures and to draw as much as you can!

E aí, Thiagão!
Bom vê-lo por aqui.
Todo mundo aqui manda um grande abraço!

Hi, Jigu
They are just pictures, we´ll post the animation soon.

Thanks, Shotta
The green particles are standard maya particles generate by a simple emitter. We'll use them for the shock wave.

Thank you, maksy
We"ll keep trying!

hey guys! that's all looking great! The asteroid looks cool Marlon!! :)

Bruno! q se foda copacabana hahaha :P
Eu soh sinto falta do Mizu e do Peralta!!!

Portland is going good... the wheater is getting better now (was raining a lot)... Now there's less clouds, more sun :D. We have a mountain close to here, I've been snowboarding a lot lately...!! It's really cool man. Come on visit! We can do a round trip... are you going siggraph this year?? Anybody is going from there?

Back to the topic.. this frame is posted is looking cool... I like the colors and all. I just think the tail of the asteroid (or it's a metheor?) is a bit too dark... I mean, I miss some transparency in the smoke and subtle color variations inside of it.

besides that... Keep it up the good work! Congratulations to all the team :)

Hi everybody,
We are having hard weeks over here, more than 6 comercial films at post-production and only a few artists to work on them!!! We dont have any free time but we still have our sleep time to do this challenge and we'll try do our best...
Thanks for all the critics and coments

Hey Thiago (tc)!!!
How is everything in Portland? It must be really nice to snowboard all the time!!! We are still thinking about sigrapph, because of the costs. But it would be fun to meet there and have some beers. For the challenge, we still have too much work to do but i think we'll complete this mission...
All the best for you!!!

Hey Raylistic,
for the earth scene from space we used After Effects and the atmosphere was done in two steps. First we made a glow area around the earth with solids and masks and then we used an adjustment layer with blur and screen mode to give the soft atmosphere look inside the earth.

Thanks Rickmeister,
we already had planned to finished on time but as we got untill monday, we are making some adjustments and fixing some problems.

Hello ParamountCell,
actually it was done with 3d layers in after effects, i can show some pictures of the viewports for you. We had to separate each building in the picture and rebuild the image behind it and then we give different Z positions to the layers and animate a 3d camera. We were thinking about using 3d max but as we had many scenes to finish we had to choose the fastest sollution.

Hey Thiago (tc)
See if you recognize our actors... and my avatar...

Hey Marlon,
How is everything? Are you still traveling?
Sometimes we still listen to "Fada querida" just for the old days.
Our great singer, director and philosofer, we hope you come visit us sometimes and we are waiting for the next chapter of "The snake and the butterfly", maybe it could turn into a short movie...
Great job with the 3d and storyboard it really made the difference!!!

Thanks Holzmeister,
Did you enjoyed the "Oh my god!" scene? hehehe
As i told to cadinho, we could make that paintball match...

Hey Rickmeister,
Thanks for the support, well as we made too many scenes we had decided to use the less 3d possible, so our solution was to create 3d layers in after effects using still pictures. We did this in many scenes also for the earth scenes, aerial scenes and smoke in the 3rd last scene. For the smoke we used a turbulence displace effect that gives the noisy movement to a smoke photo.

Grande Thiago (Dantas)!!!
How is everything in Spain??
I really wanna see a picture of the inferno "tent" room!!
Gostastes de la "Tierra" con la explosion? hehehe
Hope to see you soon my friend!!!

Thanks Nikkons and ParamountCell,
We are recovering from some hard working nights and we will post some details soon.

Hey Thiago (tc),
Bruno, Pedro and Leandro are thinking about going to sigrapph this year, but i dont know yet if i am going too.

Thanks Roberto Ortiz,
We really enjoyed this competition. Even been very busy at work we managed to complete the animation. We know we left many details unfinished but the overall result made us really glad. We think this challenge was a great opportunity to learn and work as a team!! All the results were very impressive, so congratulations to all the other artists and hope we have time to be on the next one.
