In the Cinema 4D R10>Prefs folder there are two files: dark.col and light.col.

They seem to be corrupted and when I have them in the prefs folder they wreak havoc with my display. With them taken out everything seems normal.

Are these critical files or are they the light and dark color presets and are not necessary to the functioning of C4D?

They're the color preferences that you've set up, you can delete the whole preferences folder with no ill effects, cinema will just reset it's preferences for shortcuts, scheme etc.
