I thought it was really good as well. No critiques from me. I just don't understand how this can get 5 stars, while all of those student thesis' from Ringling received 4 each. I think they were better animated, especially the "Diaper Station" animation.
I don't understand how this one can get more stars.
Not to say this one isn't awesome, it is.:buttrock:

05-03-2003, 02:51 AM
Haha. I never even thought I would get stars, let alone five stars. You guys are too nice. Thank you everyone for watching it. This is my first demo reel ever, and I must say that I worked pretty hard on it consistantly for 6 months. I'm pretty happy to know that lots of people like it :)
I plan to keep working hard to improve my skills so that I can someday work in the industry as a character animator. That would be a dream come true. Thanks again for the replies. You guys give me great confidence and inspiration to keep learning 3d.

i really enjoyed this short, even more then some of the recent student pieces. i guess i just really love the character designs, especially the little pets. they felt like little people which is what all kids probably wish their pets were. very nice, especially the twitching one after the eyeball pops out.
i think your payoff gag is what sets this piece apart from the "glossy" ringling stuff. although, i think they are all very well done as well.

hey robmaxwell
ya maybe ur right about it
I have to agree with u that those animations are better than
Eva's, but at the same time, you have to consider the time they spent on it. Ya those are the best animation and lighting reels.
But they spend 4 yrs on it right, Eva only got 8 month course to do all this, not to mention that she has to learn from the very begining. All I am saying is,maybe she got starts is becuz she was able to create wonderful reel within this short amount of time. If she had 4 yrs, I am pretty sure her reel will be better than those animations from Ringling school.
Just a thought, not trying to put anyone down
From my espect, all of the should get 5 stars :applause:

Hi Eva
I am very impressed that you could produce an animation as such consider the fact that you only started learning computer animation a year ago.
I like the style of your animation. The stagger effects are great and I love the part in the end where one bunny fainted and the other looked shocked.
Keep it up. :scream:
regards,
pete
p.s. nice music... fits well with the animation. :wavey:

Great job! It got a good laugh out of me and was very enjoyable. I love your character design, your animation is very expressive, and your set design is tight. Good luck with the job hunt, I don't think you'll have any touble.
Excellent work. love it.:applause:

Great short.
But just a question: Does VFS own the rights to all the animation you produce? I've been seeing all these Copywright Vancouver Film School texts at the end of everyone's films so...
How do you and the other grads feel about this?
srich23
05-05-2003, 09:15 AM
yeah i saw that vfs had rights to the reels, but do they make you put the "vancouver film s presents" at the beginning? or do grads just do that?

I am sure you will have a bright future. Cool work. Keep it up.

I really love your animation...............the style and timing are just perfect. It's really nice to see an animation being done by a woman, there's just something about it that's so diferent than being done by a guy. The attention to details and all the follow through and secondary action......very different yet wonderful.
If you menaged to pull out something this good in a year, I am sure, with a few years of working in a professional environment , you will be an amazing animator

No offense...
But i think you absolutely BLEW IT when you added the voice to the girl character. It had such a great "silent film" quality to it. It is not like it would been have hard to animate her using body language. Her hands and face could have easily demonstrated her need of the doll. And the actual VOICE was really horrible sounding.
I know this isnt proabably up for critique...but i just had to say something.
Overall really enjoyed this!
(but i agree...this isnt a 5 star piece)

Eva- Your work is absolutely wonderful. I love the way it turned out. You really busted ass, and deserve all of the wonderful things that your future holds for you.
As for the comments that have been posted stating that this piece is not worthy of the 5 stars that is has recieved...get over your jeaolousy.
Anyway, great work! I can't wait to see what you do from here.

Gro-dy! I loved the little guys who juggle and dance for her! Very nice facial animation on them.
I have to agree, though, either use voice for everybody, like a normal movie, or don't use any voices at all.

Hello everyone. Thanks for all the constructive crits. I appreciate all the comments.
As for the lipsynch, i understand now that it may have been a distraction to the film by having just the one sentence, but my intentions were to show to the companies that I was able to lipsynch, even if it was a small part. But i will take your advice for my next project :)
As for the copyright issue, it is mandatory for the students to include that in their demo. I don't know exactly why, but it may be because we worked on the machines and licenses that are property of the school.
johngloid
05-06-2003, 07:57 AM
Eva I really think you should find out what the copyright is about.
As a fellow artist I can tell you that it's not cool at all, and the school should not own the rights to your work.
I'm really getting my undies in a bundle over this stuff, but I do believe that someone's creation is their creation.

the 640x480 link wont work for me, and I tried watching the smaller version and I just cant watch low quality stuff on my PC, it pixelates it or something, I think the codec I have is whack or something, but any chance that someone could get a mirror for the higher quality one? I really would like to see this
