View Full Version : Indirect Illumination (FG or GI) Pass?

Is there a way to save out a separate pass with only MR indirect illumination data for 3ds max?

The only thing I've been able to find that does this are the ctrl_buffer & mia_wrapper shaders, however, they are not written for 3ds max.

1) Why are you asking about 3ds Max related issues on the Combustion forum?
2) Those shaders are available for 3ds Max. Check maxplugins.de (http://www.maxplugins.de/mentalray.php).

Rendering separate passes are usually intended for compositing, so I figured "Discreet Effects & Compositing" would be a suitable forum.

The mia_buffer_phen shader is what is needed. Its great -functions just like the MR Arch&Design material. You will need the ctrl_buffers and mrGeomShader installed as well. The manual is in German, but a google translation is good enough to do some damage.

Asking how to composite it would apply here. Asking how to generate them should be directed to the forum of the application you are trying to create them in.
