CHRiTTeR 04-30-2003, 04:30 PM Any-one knows the story behind that famous teapot in MAX? I've been wondering what's behind it everytime I use MAX...

Uhm, donīt know, but itīs very old. There was already a teapot generator plugin for Max R4 (MS-Dos Version).

there is a web site devoted to the story of the teapot, but that sites URL escapes my memory at the moment, I believe it is supposed to be the first 3D image ever generated way back when. ( though I have seen images produced at berkley dated earlier ),, but the teapot is given that honor of being first, so that is why you see it everywhere.

Yup, first true 3D CG object modeled and, more importantly, textured/rendered.

So it's some sort of dedication to the first CG-image. Hehe, I like the idea behind that :D.

And it is an ideal shape for testing shaders! BTW - I hear the rabit is gaining in popularity!

Yes, it's a bit of an homage to the Utah Teapot, but it's original purpose of testing surfaces/shaders/lighting on a complex object is still viable and for that reason it's a primitive.
The rabbit is good too, though I was always fond of the Tamer from the early Ghost/Brazil tests.
