View Full Version : Zign Track (Motion Tracking Software)
InfoCentral 02-10-2008, 04:39 PM Has anyone tried this product out. I see that Blender is listed in the spec sheet as ideal for using it? It certainly is cheep at less than $120. Does Blender contain a motion capture editor?

A coder is working on integrated motion tracking, but it won't be ready for Blender 2.46 but might be for Blender 2.50 .

I'm not familiar with the product, but as letter rip said, if it's out there the blender team will find some way to "freely" integrate it or somthing with the same functionality later on in a future release...
and by motion tracking do you mean photonic (video based) or electronic (electrode based) EX: nintendo wii.
if it's the later, it can easily be integrated setting up an armature under the logic bricks to be equal to the motion of any electrodes sensed by a senso bar. (in theory) so no program needed there..
but if it's based on a camera trying to understand where you are and how youre moving, that would definately require a program, or a large series of python scripts...
also it's harder for a system to pick up on movements in a video image at a decent rate for reliable videogame play, thats why electrodes were chosen for the wii, verses some of the motion sensor camera games released prior to it (which failed miserably....) basically you could only move so fast, other wise the camera wouldn't be able to register your movment at all, like a blur in a photograph when the subject is moving... it can only guess, at these most often crucial points of game play...
so in the long run it's not suggested if you actually want a working game...
I'd suggest electrode based motion operations, it would cost a bundle, but it would make your game/ movie register movement much better!
but I believe I've gone off topic slightly, not to mention I had only a small concept of what you were talking about anyways, but I hope one of the things I mentioned would be helpfull to you.
Oh and also there is (in development), something called the "emotive EPOC" it will be released at the end of the year and allows you to play any computer game with your mind, and also control computer applications with your mind, such as blender :) I'm going to budge my way into getting one so making my game will be much easier! instead of point and click, I could just think about what I want to accomplish and what processes I would accomplish it by and it would get done! in minutes instead of hours.... could be possible to program like this as well!

To be clear, I was answering this question,
Does Blender contain a motion capture editor?
but had read it as motion capture capability.
For editing mocap data blender has very limited tools.
Also I don't expect Blenders tracking software to initially have a focus of performance capture, but more for match moving and related. So if you have need of such software it would be silly to wait on future development.

I see that version 1.3 is complete and that direct Poser support is finished. Perhaps with a little nudge from the user base he will add direct Blender support next...hint..hint...hint...

Really? That's great news...considering Voodoo was the closest to an open-source motion tracking app and that's gone now...

Blender supports custom constraining of the BVH files, so it already works in Blender. I am currently working on eye tracking and will add other export formats after that.
This comes from another forum where the developer of Zign Track dropped by and answered my question about Blender support. So it seems that there is no waiting it is available right now!

Any word from that coder yet?
I've been using zigntrack for a work project recently (not in blender so I can't comment on integration) and think it is an absolutely awesome piece of software for the price. Obviously it doesn't come close to Face Robot, but for me as a small scale videogame artist it is fantastic. I'm able to add that extra level of detail with facial animation which would not be possible because of time constraints.
