Hi all,

one nice feature of maya 5 is that you can paintFX, and then convert it to geometry.

 Its really nice!

If I want to paintFX with an object I created, how can I make a brush with my own geometry? Any hint?

Thanks!!

yes, it's awesome - i'm just playing around with some converted paint effects scenes in mental ray - i didn't use paint effects before - i didn't like the taste of it being some wiered post rendered effect - but now, OMG

and yes, i would like to know how to make my own brushes too - the mel scripts containing the brushes seem a bit hard to handle

The best way to create your own brush...is to tweak one form visor (tex, parameters)

Great thing is that you can render PFX as polys in PFX pass.

It is very fast.

Also new poly reduction tool works really well on PFX brushes converted to polys.

But if you cannot archive what you want tweaking?

If I want to paint houses to create a town, and I modeled some houses, how can I convert this 3d houses into brushes?

Now you can paint teapots, how can I replace the teapots with something else?

If you want to paint with geo use Script Paint tool with geoPaint script.

It is not PFX.

Within PFX you can experiment with blending.

Ok man, it works!

Is not really intuitive, but it works very well.

Anyway if you would make your 3D object a PFX brush, there should be a way! :surprised

Thanks!
