got some modelling done today, but still have detail to add in places before i texture. i envision this as an abondened machine that i call " Extractor 26".

update time. added a few details and slapped on a metal shader as a place holder. played with the lighting as well.

Reminds me of plexcus work, but not as icky :) Keep it up. Looks like it will become something special with the right textures. The wall looks a little procedural at the moment tho, I asume it's temp.

finally got some time to do some more work this thing. i think im getting close to final on the model. the weathered texture is my initial idea for the feel of the image, but im still planning final colors of this machine. the claw texture is still just a place holder.
gimme some ideas on color schemes for this thing..

Very cool machine!
Creepy and terrifying. I certainly wouldn't want to be led kicking and screaming towards that thing....
I wouldn't go for those bright orangy tones though. Go for a cold, harsh look :bounce:
Go for blues, grays and browns :bounce:

By the way - which one is the On switch? You should make a one of those big pull down switches with the wooden handle :wip:

I would also suggest that rendering it straight on makes it kind of hard to determing what it is that we are looking at. Of course, it is going to be great for a Wallpaper. :)

got some work done over the weekend. the cooler color scheme and camera veiw led me in a completely different direction then i had in mind, but its fun to warp one idea into another. still have textures and lighting to work on, maybe a tad of modelling. thanks for the feed back. keep it comming.

Spooky. I do think that you need more contrast in the scene - maybe make the shadows a lot deeper - make the whole scene more ominous and mysterious.
The wide camera angle is cool, but I think that it's a bit difficult to see what the contraption is now... Maybe move the camera in closer??

Keep in mind, that your picture should tell a story. You have decided to show very few things in your picture so make sure, that your main object is your main character.

:)

VERY many excuses for bad english

redesign time! the overall design just wasnt clickin' for me. i pulled the the one element i liked and redesigned the scene with it as the base. shoulda sketched more before i stared this. lol.
textures are place holders. gimme thoughts!!

Hey I LOVE the new design! Looks somehow like it would be ... ummm... noisier now - like when it was switched on it would make a deep rumbling sound :p You know what would be really cool? If you animated it, and when it was switched on, a cool blue or red light moved up and down in those grooves... just a thought :)

I know those textures are just placeholders.. but man, you need to get rid of that perlin marble (or whatever it is) procedural - it really detracts from your model. Before texturing it, just leave it plain :)

Looking cool!! Just watch out for that stretching, hope you get it fixed soon ;) You should add some dried blood or gore to that piece of metal that lies below the claw thing.
Great work so far :applause:

Wicked! Looking very cool. The blood definitely makes it more gruesome. Coming in on this late, but the progression has been great as you've gone..

Couple things, the blue area seemed to look better in the prior update..the number there adds nicely but it seems like the blue areas are oversaturated or glowing somehow..felt colder and more grim before. Also the oil(?) stains seem a bit heavy..would be nice to have more coming from the places it would logically leak also, like the overhead pipes, etc.

Oh and one more dumb thought, it might make more sense if the panel behind the machine (ie out to where the green lights are) was metal like the big vents, so it's kind of a large machine imbedded into a frame of concrete, but not made of concrete..does that make any sense?

Eek, I've written a novel here! :hmm: Sorry. I'll go lurk now. Can't wait to see the final! :applause:

I like it alot. I do get a plexcus-feeling but so what, I love plexcus... Iīm not sure what this machine is suppose to operate on or kill or whatever, but it would be really cool if there was like a cage or something to hold the "patient" while the machine is working :)

advancing nicely, the gore looks good but looks like its only happened once.
a stain that looks like it has been bled upon over and over would really add.

also, the blue with the yellow 26, reminds me of highschool football lockerrooms, looks like it was spraypainted with a cardboard stencil, just doesn't seems to fit properly, ya know

keep it up

There ya go bud, lookin good:thumbsup:
the stains look great, and the alien number up top fits nicely
and I'm a fan of blowin the specularity out a bit, makes it seem more real.. hmm:drool:

for some reason the contrast gained by blooming the spec channels just seemed to fit for this one. there is also a slight glow in there to help it out.:buttrock:
