View Full Version : Overlayed Transparency problem. Help!
gizmo1990 02-10-2008, 01:07 PM I'm setting up some layered alpha textures (to create a quick fur look) using a couple of polys textured with said fur drawing. I'm using FG to render my scene and the fur poly looks fine. However when I duplicate the poly and overlay it over other alphered polys I get a black border around the poly on the foreground, the one nearest the camera??
Why is this happening? The texture is incredibly simple and I've just plugged it into the ambient, diffuse and transparency of a phong.
Any help greatly appreciated.

What format is the texture?

First of all, it's hard to know what you talk about, if you do not attach an image.
If you wish better and faster replies, you should make clear everybody understands
exactly the problem.
Now, :) I guess you have Mental Ray Refraction Depth problems.
when layering transparent objects, one over the other, you need to up the Refraction
depth in Mental Ray's setting (Under Optimization), up it but 2 or 3, and also up the
combined. (make sure you do that for the region and for the rendering options)
if you do not need shading, you better use the Sprite shader instead, the sprite shader
does not rely on Refraction depth, so you can use as many layers as you want, and it
will render fast.
