View Full Version : Demo Reel technicalities.
Antonalog 04-30-2003, 10:17 AM I'm just starting work on my first demo reel.
I have the following questions:
1 Do I need to copyright my work? How would I go about doing that?
2 What is the difference between a solicited reel and an unsolicited reel?
3 I am a Modeler, how do I present stills? Models?
4 If my submission is on CD-ROM, should I have a front-end for the work, or should I just throw a couple of directories on the CD?

1. Well, your work is copyrighted to you from the moment you create it, but you may want to get your work registered at the US Copyright Office, because you would need this in order to sue someone in the unfortunate event that they stole something from you. The US Copyright website can be found here. (http://www.loc.gov/copyright/)
2. Not sure.
3. I would imagine you could create a short movie doing a turnaround of the characters for easy viewing. I see this type of movie in the extra features on DVDs like Monsters, Inc, and Dinosaur.
4. I'm not sure if submitting CDs is acceptable at all. :surprised All the studios I've looked into so far only accept VHS. You should look at the companies you're applying for and see if that's the case for you too. If you can work from a CD, I think creating a simple HTML page to guide the reviewer through the CD would be pretty cool.
