View Full Version : Little girl: Need some anatomy help
funkyfoe 02-07-2008, 11:58 PM Hi guys i`m working on my school application and this is the final image
I`ll be making!
Guess this is alittle out of the ordinary on this forum
but in lack of someone who could model for me I`ve made
a collage mockup for use as reference when drawing (charcoal)
using parts of different photos found on the web.
what I`m really struggling with is her left arm, so if anyone
of you gifted people could have a look and tell me whats wrong
I would really appretiate it :)
And don`t be afraid of messing around with the image!
All the best

The left forearm and hand are too large.
Even allowing for foreshortening, you won't see THAT great a size distance, unless the camera is like, 4" from the hand, which would distort the rest of the body.
Try shrinking that forearm and hand until the hand is only a tiny bit larger than her right one.

Yah, the overall shape of your pieces parts works for the intended purpose.
Keep in mind, this is only a reference image. It is more akin to a digital mannekin than a model, and would never be more, even if you made her in Poser 3d...A Pixel-Frankenstein, if you will. Its purpose should only be that of a visual guide, with your own artistic eye able to make any "fine tweaking" (which even real models need done by artists). You should still be exercising your "Artistic License" in execution for minor details.

funkyfoe,
Any particular reason you've decided to composite an image instead of using reference directly? The problem with this is that you're going to copy in your drawing any of the mistakes that you've created with the compositing of reference, and to make the reference work you'd have to have knowledge of what this figure should look like which I'm guessing you might not have at this time - I would suggest just using direct reference, check www.characterdesigns.com / photosets for some free / artistic nude reference if you need to use figures.
Otherwise I'd have to do a paintover to correct the photo composite, and my apologies, but I don't have time.
Good luck. :)
Cheers,

That`s a great reference site! didn`t know about this one :)
the reason why I`m trying to stich together this little girl with bits of pieces is that I want to have an image in my application that is "mine" :) all my other images
are replicas.
problem is, i haven`t been able to find a childs arm (her left) from this specific angle so had to do my best by guessing....I`ll search some more tho
Thanks for the comment and I`ll definately check out that site!
