View Full Version : question on Per-anders reel
georgedrakakis 02-07-2008, 10:46 PM well, first of all (& still speechless), i gotta say that's just amazing!
"nobody's perfect" stands out for everyine but Per-Anders.
i got two questions though (since the reel is done in 2005):
is Storm tracer available for r.10.5?
and what is the "spider" integrated node-based compositing solution?
i've never heard of such tool inside c4d.
see attached a screenshot from the reel.
edit: the only i've found so far is this cgtalk_thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=498606)
cheers,
george

Thanks, glad you like that reel but it's very much out of date, there's a lot better stuff that regularly goes through the animation forum here on CGtalk that I'd recommend everyone check out to see how things should be done.
On your questions, yes Storm Tracer is still available for R10.5 and Spider is an integrated node based compositing solution for Cinema 4D that has never been released (except to a few beta testers).

Per has developed many tools for cinema that were proprietary and not suited for commercial release for whatever reason and since has moved onto other development and such (remember he's working for maxon now) Such is the way with many developers, Darf had many sorts of tools that got mentioned in public but never released as well.
Sometimes its because of documenting etc sometimes its the workflow and interface, lets be honest just because a tool works doesn't mean its workflow is suitable for mass market. A lot of the plugins on Per's site are simpler specific function plugins that are pretty self explanatory do very little and there fore easy and reliable. something like a nodal compositor is a lot more involved and maybe never got to that state. Then there also the marketing and sale ofsuch tools. How much does he charge for such a tool how much of the market are really willing to pay for such a feature. I mean honestly theres nothing to compare it too, XSI has a compositor built in, but its included in price of XSI, and blender has one but the entire blender is opensource and therefore free. Its not as flexible as dedicated compositing apps like shake or fusion and charging as much for a plugin as the actual app is hard to justify, the tool becomes hard to market and sell.

tnx, but i've made up my mind :)

that's good news.
i am beginning my first steps on animation (actually arch_viz animation), and the thought of making everyhting (even compositing) through cinema4d is exciting.
so, will it be released some time soon?
if not, i place my self as a volunteer for beta-tester.
i am so rookie in compositing, that makes me a perfect-user-to-evaluate-if-it-is-a-no-brainer. :)

I really thought the music (and the imagery) was terrific in this demo reel.
Per, I've wondered if you composed that yourself, since there is a link to your musical forays on your website. Did you?
Also, what app did you use for post work?

No I'm afraid I didn't do the music for my main showreel, I did do the music on the Storm Tracer reel though, the music on my showreel is Groove Armada (I didn't have access to the tools to produce that sort of thing back then). Post work on the reel was done in Spider and After Effects, these days I use Motion/FCP.

stupid question, but on the purchase link there is no mention for r.10.5
it only ask to provide a serial for 8.0 or r.9.0.
what serial should o provide?
the old r.9.0 or my r.10.5?
thanks in advance,
george

You should provide the R10.0 core serial number first 11 digits (not the 10.5 upgrade serial number), it's the top most one that appears when you go to Help->Personalize in Cinema 4D.
