View Full Version : Linking : one biped root to another? [Max5.1/CS4.1]

We are trying to link two bipeds together under character studio 4.1.

This used to work under CS3.x, but now when we try to load a bip onto the linked biped, max crashes. If we try to save the .max file, it also crashes.

The basic scenario is we have a man on a horse. The man's biped root is linked to the horse's biped root to keep him in sync with the horse's movement while we animate him.

Any ideas why this wouldn't be working?

EDIT:
I should note that the file we are working on is originally from CS3.x. Two new CS4 bipeds do link okay.

hmm, just got cs 4 at school the other week but havnt been able to use it yet. you said that two new cs 4 bipeds link.. so would it be possible for you to save the animation and figures of the cs 3 bipeds and then load them onto a cs4 biped and link them?

This is gonna sound really dumb but did u try resaving your cs3 biped in cs 4.1 and reopening the saved file to work on it?

Transform Gizmo: We've tried that, but the files still seem to have issues with linking.

dom: Same. Resaving the files did nothing.

HHhhmmn,.. How about linking to the pelvis or putting a dummy object in between somehow?

Well then you may have to animate the horse and then copy tracks to the rider COM, kinda sucky - hope you solve it!

That's what I figured... I'm writing a script to do just that.

Thanks anyway. If you can think of anything else, let me know.
