hey, I am working on this for a logo animation class. Wondering what people thought, esp the lighting (as I really don't know what I am doing with lights). I know the textures are just simple colored shaders, hoping to find a way to cover that with the rendering...

It looks like you have used a 1 Spot Light in this scene. As far a lighting is concerned I like to use a combination between
"Target Direct" lights and "Omni" lights. I dont really like Omni lights because they are very hard 2 perfect but I find Target Direct lights to give a nice surface contrast that I really like.

Remember if you dont want a light to light a specific object just exclude it from the lights effective list.

What you have done is ok. Try experimenting a little more. When Im not sure that is what I do. Theres really no right or wrong way unless your breaking the rules of realism so what ever makes you happy.

Hope this helps :bounce:

thanks for the comments. I used a combination of area lights (for the general ambience) and a few spots (for the more specific lighting).

I find that when I try to link my lights I always end up with an image confusing beyond repair, so I didn't do it here at all (ain't time constraints a bitch?). Any reccommends on ways to learn about linking??

I plan on reworking everything but the models if I get a chance, won't be until after I get the grade though...

got the animation going right along now... heres the first render:

http://www.zgrachan.com/comp2.zip

it's a zipped .avi file, more formats will be available when completed.

note: I am reworking the camera movements, and the logo jumping out of the monitor right now, next I plan on making it into sort of a matrix computer setup (ie many monitors placed just where you want them) in a dilapidated room (ie pipes showing through broken plaster walls and wires hanging everywhere).

Comments and Critiques please!

first attempt at making it look more broken and old...like the ship from the matrix (with the cool monitors too)

textures are all placeholders!

i am working on the modeling of the pipes and wires right now, just noticed that the monitor mounts need a wingnut or something too...

what's a guy got to do to get some feed back here?
