I am making a space image/scene and I would like to incooprorate some of nasa photography from here into my background. I would also like to copyright my image, is this possible?

You need to check NASA's copyright for their images--whether they are public domain or not. Also, I think you need to make sure the NASA image isn't the main part of your image. Basically your original elements in the image must be the majority. There are probably other details you need to find out too, but I don't have time to google for it right now.
