I'm animating the character's fall using a bvh file, so I'm not worried about that. I'm mainly trying to figure out how to make the rope fall on top of him after he hits the ground.
I found this fantastic example (http://www.pixellusion.de/public/hair_splines_web.mov) from basti. But I don't get how he does it. I have Hair, but have only used it once to create grass.

If that's right, then how do I tell the spline to collide with the plane?
Thanks.

Yes, now place a Hair Collider tag on the plane. Play with the tag parameters until you get what you want and press play.

Dangit! Why can't I ever remember this stuff? I know I've used the Hair Collider tag before ... maybe a year ago.
Thanks Richard. Much appreciated.

1 hour later ...
How do I keep the "rope" from intersecting with itself?

Only Cloth and Dynamics Softbodies can do self collision and they will be slow.

and increase the collision radius to the same size as the rope's sweep circle.

Hello,
for siple and short rope you can try to use oFlex Simulator from PhyTools.
With PhyTools-2 one will be able to do much much more...
PhyTools2_1000mRope.avi (10 MB) (http://www.remotion4d.net/download/download.php?file=PhyTools2_1000mRope.avi)
