View Full Version : New 3D display technology
Larrikin 02-07-2008, 02:47 AM Here’s (http://technology.newscientist.com/article/dn13282-rewritable-holograms-promise-3d-displays.html) a very interesting item on a 3D video technology under development.
I can’t wait till they get some like this out because demand for our services will go thru the roof!
I like this bit..
“Peyghambarian is confident that refresh rates high enough for 3D video displays are possible "within the next few years””

Is this the same thing they are using for movies, mainly U2 3D and James Cameron's Avatar?
I'm really excited to see both of those films.

Wow. Impressive. The minds of today, right? The one thing they didn't address though: price. This seems like an expensive technology... do you think it will make it?

No, this is like those holograms that were so popular in the 80's only they can refresh the image that is written on the material in like 3 mins. With time they will get that up to 30fps or hopefully 60fps. This will mean you will have a 3D display that can show many angles. So if you are modelling something and you want to peak around the corner, you really can do it. Or if your creative director is looking at your screen from another angle he will see it from another angle.

I have the 22" iZ3D monitor and it is awesome - comes complete with polarized glasses. It uses two LCD panels one in front of the other!
Glass-less 3D is on it's way too. More info on this stuff on my blog - don't know if I can post a link to it within my post so I won't for now. My link is in my profile.
Best,
