View Full Version : Holomatrix Rendition Appreciation Thread
slebed 02-06-2008, 03:31 AM I hope this will become a place where we can all help contribute to the continuing developement of Rendition. If you are not familiar with what Rendition is, follow this link. (http://www.holomatix.com/products/rendition/about/)
If you use mental ray in your rendering pipeline, you really should look into this plugin.

Just download the latest build for the platform your using. Unarchive to your drive and run the Rendition.exe
It will display a dialogue asking to install/update the plugin within max. From within max you just select Rendition as your renderer.
As of build .315 the interactive feature planned for max has not been implemented yet. This is coming according to the developers. In the meantime, you can render you mental ray scene through Rendition, and then update the viewport by using the mouse.

Hi Slebed,
Thanks for creating this new thread! It's nice to know our work is appreciated by someone! :-)
We've fixed several Max crashes in the latest release (316),thanks to the debug packages people have been kind enough to send - and we're working on a lot of the things people have been asking for on this board as well (faster photons, displacement mapping etc). We've got our work cut out!
BTW I took a look at your mechnology reel, really impressive!
Best Regards
Matt

Btw, seems I've found a bug. Havn't tested this on any other system though.
But max keeps crashing whenever I try to close the render dialog or material editor, every single time. Tested on a few different scenes.

Matt, please ,please focus on IPR. Having a way to interactively see changes in lighting and texturing would really help us out.

It's more than appreciated, it is downright awesome! And very glad you work on that GI/FG stuff. Frequent new betas is cool, too!

Very glad this is in development - and absolutely ready to invest some cash when the IPR function is up and running.

Just wanted to let people know that the Holomatrix website has been updated with new videos showing off what Rendition is capable of. There is a plugin available for current versions of 3dsmax and it works really well. The only thing it doesn't do yet is have an interactive update feature like the Maya version, but if anyone is interested in seeing this they should contact the author and let him know! He said that adding that feature is on his to do list.

Well, if he hopes to sell licenses for Max, he had better mash on the gas with this Interactive Renderer, cause VRay is already showing off it's upcoming IPR, and over at the Cebas forums many of us have been bugging the horns off the crew for a such a feature to be implemented soon for finalRender. Edwin, the owner, chimed in saying that they were working on something along those lines, but they were after a better solution.
Once either one of those comes out, I will have no interest whatsoever in Holomatix. He's going to have to beat them to the punch to sell some copies.

Has worked great for me for some time, and I use it a lot for designing my shaders. But it's still unusable with indirect illumination (much slower than mr), and I hope they find way to improve on that. Otherwise it's flawless from my POV!
