I guess while it's still in the theatres they can't show you squat. Makes sense.

CG-wise the monster doesn't look that good.It is akin to the effects from The Water Horse.

Yeah the monster is very well done, if you want to see what it looks like just go see the movie.
I wasn't too interested in the movie but saw it anyways and I was blown away by how well it's made and the attention to detail. It really does something to you after you see it, especially the suprise at the end.
now I just want to know how the hell they put all those shots together.

Everyone keeps talking about "seeing the moster". I saw the movie and still don't recall seeig the monster as much as everyone else seems to remember.
I recall the news scene (seen on a TV screen), the helicopter scene, the Hud scene. And those you really don;t get an idea of the whole monster.

Here is an HD clip of the creature in full view. I still don't think it was that amazing.

I felt that the creature was well executed, until the last part where you see it. Up until that point, I felt it was blended into the footage really well. Having said that, I didn't particularly like the design of the creature, but whatever, it worked.

Less an article than a press-release.
Let me summarize all the facts presented in the "article": Tippett worked on the Cloverfield monster.

What's amazing is the integegration with the footage and the choice to only show 'glimpses' of the monster.
While watching the film, you can barely see it - the only way to get a good view is to step-by-step through the clips.
In the grand scheme of character design I think it's pretty wicked.
But it still looks like something that was pulled out of Quake 3.

Looks a lot like a quadrupedal pumpkinhead, to me.

I preferred the "whale mutant" concept. Wayyyy cooler.
A giant whale attacking a city would have been awesome. Instead we have this alien creature that looks like it came from power rangers.
le sigh..

I just saw a new Cloverfield commercial and they show that exact clip that was posted above. Now they make it seem like you WILL see the monster a lot.
Click on Monster RevealedJesus... does the whole movie shake like that? I don't think I can watch 2 hours worth of camera shakes like that.

The parasites did look like the Arachnids from Starship Troopers, that's what might push people to say that some of the designs reminded them of that movie. Though the giant monster has nothing in common with any of Starship Troopers monsters. I think the movie was really well crafted and the special effects were particulary awesome, the sound too was very good. That motion tracking and perfectly fit CGI elements was very impressive to me. I enjoyed the movie a lot, I didn't get motion sickness, I am tough and play lots of video games so...
The monster's design was odd though but still very interesting in my opinion. Multiple arms, branchies that expand while he's breathing, strange jaw with thin shrill teeth. It's original, you don't know if it's alien or a mutation. I'd like there be a sequel for telling us more...

I think a lot of people are missing what made the monster so good in the film
You see it very very clearly in a lot of shots, the news footage, the subway scene, the heli scene etc.... the thing is that the shape of it is so odd, so alien that your brain cant quite make up a whole image of the thing. They leave it on just long enough for you to roam your eyes all over it, but then as you are trying to decypher what you saw, they cut away. You clearly see the head, the tail, the long arms...but its not humanoid, not squid like not anything you would expect, so you feel like you didnt get a good look. And for me that is a stroke of genius....
Amazing film. Genre defining in my opinion.
