How do you specify specific file setting when using the render() outputfile:temp.png

Like how do you specify that you want a 16bit png with alpha etc.

Thanks.

if you are net rendering, I would recommend setting your preference on your local box, saving an image and then pushing this file from your box to all your render nodes...

\3dsmax9\plugcfg\png.cfg

The interface call can be a little spotty across the network...

Keith,

Are you saying then that the workaround described by James here http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=98&t=533442 doesn't always work? The idea about closing the render dialog, setting rendoutputfilename="", setting the IO settings, and then setting rendoutputfilename to be your desired output path?

Sorry, thinking about it...I referring specificly for .png pre Max9 . I haven't test it in 9 or 2008, I just continued an older practice that worked for me at the time...
We use a mix of .exr and png's here. .exr seems to behave properly.. I can't remember the last time I need a 24bit png.. But could I test it...

I just got done doing a batch of .tga stuff over the network, and I too was having problems with the network machines not respecting the file setting I had set up, but then James' suggestion cleared it up for me. So I'm really hoping this is a robust workaround as I plan on developing much bigger net render tools in the future.
