Hello,

Are there any Intensive/Short Term 3DS Max training course people would recommend? Something along the lines of the Gnomon Workshop for Maya, but for 3DS Max? I am a professional fulltime illustrator who had been using 3DS Max in a limited capacity for about a year for illustrative renderings and I would like to go into an intensive short-term program to get myself up to speed. 1-2 weeks with lots of class and lab time.

I am self-taught with 3DS Max, and I have large gaps in my knowledge and very sloppy methodology. I work best by immersing myself in a program and having a knowledgable person available to answer questions when I get stuck and give me the basics at the beginning. I have looked into this a little, and have found a couple programs like the ones offered by I8media.com, DHIMA, and the ones recommended by Discreet on their website under training. Location isn't an issue for me.

Anyone have suggestions or warnings?

You could fly me out to FL & we could cover mesh modeling, poly modeling, spline cage modeling, shaders, proper maps sizes, using alpha channels, sweetening in photoshop, advanced lighting and introductory character animation...

That should chew up a couple of weeks!

8 - 10 Hours a day, $2,000/wk plus expenses (I don't eat much).

i'll do it for $1600 plus travel/expenses  :D

although really the cheapest method would be to just get a stack of max books (like the inside 3dsmax series) and lock yourself in a room for a week and learn a ton that way, since those books are generally written by folks who know what they are doing :)

although i'm mostly self taught as wellm so i don't know of any courses u could take :hmm:

Brandon,

I just looked at your site,...

I can see why you are hot for 3D! Your flash work is practically a storyboard for 3D work. Nice, but 3D would take you to new heights.

FYI - I have had a few of my students come from a training program. Most of them only scratched the surface of 3D modeling et all. If you do hire someone with alot of production experience I suggest you video tape the sessions. Pros are so full of 3D knowledge that the learing can be overwhelming and how nice it would be to be able to rewind after the fact.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Le3D and Capn_Panic, I may take you guys up on those lessons someday, but for now I will probably devote some time to training DVDs first. My boss is a big "certification" guy as he worked in technology before publishing, so I will try the certified videos before I try personal lessons. I appreciate the consideration and support. :)
