ok im helping my suitemate upgrade his pc from a pentium II. he got the same mobo as me, asus p4t533c, pentium 4 2.4b, 512 1066 ram(and the wrong stuff came so i hend to lend him 512 of mine damnit!), new wd 40 gig caviar, and he got a new cdrom just cuz his old one wasnt workin, and he kept his old internal zip and cdburner. so were puttin it together last night, running into various problems with his case, like no where to put his floppy with the new hd, but we got everythign in there. i boot up, get the boot order to read the win2k cd, and with an error (says something like hadware monitor has detected an error, please check boot power settings) i hit f1 to continue and installed win2k. everything seemed to be going great until i tried to install the video card, an old ati radeon 64 drr i had layin around forever. i installed drivers, restarted and it booted up to right before the windows logon screen(when the desktop and mouse show up), then it froze. restarting it boots up fine untill i get to the desktop and the monitor shuts off. hmmm. restart again and it freezes, and the same repeats for the next 4 reboots. i assume its the video card not sitting right, althought i wont have time to check until later, and his old video card is sh*t, an sis card, so if this sounds like any other problem please let me know. and what about that power error? any ideas? anyone know googlegear.com's return policy on the wrong ram sent out? =) i feel naked with 512 here
