View Full Version : Sketchbook Thread of Seabass
Seabass 02-02-2008, 11:10 PM Wow, it's been a very long time since I posted anything, or have even drawn anything for that matter. My last sketchbook thread consisted of a few posts made over a year ago! I won't bore you with all the silly reasons for this, but I've realized that I need to get back to drawing and stick to it, if for no other reasons than simply maintaining some semblance of mental health :-) To that end I went to an open figure drawing session this morning - the first time I've drawn from a live model in five years or so. It felt really, really good! Here's some of my sketches from this morning's session (the usual 30 sec. gestures, and ending with a few 15-20 min poses):

I dusted off my trusty Wacom today, opened Painter, pulled up a ref photo from CharacterDesigns.com and did a quick study. Felt pretty rusty - like drawing with mittens on - but it all came back pretty quick (not that I was any kind of wiz at it previously).
Ananpg, thanks for the warm welcome!

I tried a new technique (for me) during last week's session where I put down a base town with soft vine charcoal, then used charcoal pencils, an eraser, and a little white charcoal to put in the darks, lights, and highlights, respectively. I like where these are going.
These are all 20 min sketches.
