View Full Version : Rendering : Max 5.1 light tracer blue spots bug???
joske 04-29-2003, 08:52 AM when using light tracer (Global illumination) in max5.1 it often happens that i get bleu spots in my rendering :surprised
usually it's on objects that have a material with a raytracer in the reflection (this could be the prob, i'm not sure)
check it out in the picture attached
does anyone have any experience with this or have a solution for this prob??
thx

Try increasing your rays/sample and filter size in the light tracer settings.

In fact, well at least in my experience, this has nothing to do with rays/samples and filter size, since these artifacts tend to happen at medium to high configs. It never happened to me at low settings, anyway. Changing (increasing as well as decreasing)any of rays or bias setting will make it go away, but it can reappear anywhere at any setting. increasing the filter size only increases the size of the blotch.
I have no F** idea what this is. In my case, also happens with raytrace in relfection slots materials + skylight. As soon as I take out the reflection map, it aslo goes away.

same thing keeps happening, now with GREEN spots!!
:banghead:
thx treed and marcusss
i'll try fiddeling around with the light tracer settings, however the spots only appear on objects that have a material with raytrace in the relfection slot.
So like marcusss i think the light tracer settings are not the prob...??! :hmm:

green??
well i never saw this!.... hehe
just one thing: they appear anywhere as long as there is a material with raytraced reflections in the scene, not only on these materials.

Trippy!
It is my opinion that there is a silicon lifeform in your code trying to communicate with you in some sort of pixel space binary code...
Perhaps if you can crack the code you can put this entity to work!

This has happened to me as well. My "solution" was to use the free version of VRay.
....BUT... over at the discreet forums the answer seems to be found. http://support.discreet.com it seems that the cause maybe "dodgy uv mapping". Honestly I haven't confirmed this, but you may try asking over there.
