View Full Version : environment: loneliness
Breuer 04-29-2003, 04:50 AM Im doing some images for a childrens book about an old lady that lives in a lonely flat. The book tells the life of the old woman through the different items she has gathered through her long life. This is my first render- testing out the flat and experimenting with lighting and atmosphere. It is nowhere near finished but thought I'd get some feedback here.
PS I havent created the old lady or any of the characters yet. I felt the flat would be the most important to begin with.

Very Nice! The shadows cast on the wall by that chair on the left seem a bit awkward, but other than that, VERY NICE. I like.
Did you photoshop that steam from the cup on the window, or is that a particle effect?

Im glad you like it and yeah, I know those shadows are bit strange, i'll have too fix them. The steam is PS but all the other lighting and volumetrics has been done in LW. Do you think the image is to dark for being printed?
Im not gonna use this image, but I was thinking about keeping the mood and the lighting.

Nah I don't think it's too dark. I like how dark it is, it sets a good mood for the story.

The only thing I don't like about the second rendering is that hard edge where the walls meet the ceiling. Maybe some trim to help break up those hard edges.
And yes, I think it portrays loneliness, or isolation maybe.

I love the composition you have going. I'm starting to feel sorry for the lady
The black and white one i like very much. Does the print have to be in color? For some reason to me some of the mood is lost in the color one. Maybe if you desaturate the colors more it will give it an older lonely feel. The lamp in color seems blown out. I'm almost tempted to see a volumetric light coming from the window in the colored one.
Otherwise its looking real good. Now i'm gonna sob and cry for the poor lady.
