For example I wanted to alter the default for subdivSmoothness (for nurbs and subDs when I press 1, 2 or 3).

In which file do I have to go to alter the precision????

Window | Settings Preferences | Hotkey Editor

if you put 1 into the key box, then press find you'll see that the command being called is

setDisplaySmoothness 1

if you wanted to say have a higher level for each, you could assign 1 to

setDisplaySmoothness 2

and do something similar for each of the quality display hokeys (1,2,3..)

is that what you were looking for?

But assigned to the displaySmmothness are fixed values for example to CurvePrecision. And I wanna customize them...

ok... it was really easy... darn thing I call my head...

just assigned to the hotkey 3 (thx for the pointer) following line

displaySmoothness -divisionsU 3 -divisionsV 3 -pointsWire 16 -pointsShaded 50 -polygonObject 3;

where pointsShaded is the value of the curve precision...
good thing about it if it is not ok, i still can go back to the default setting.

greets
