Greetings fellow CGtalkers!

I did this spot just to exercise my animation muscles and as a piece for self promotion. I will go ahead and admit that it took nearly a month to complete and that I wish I had a tighter script.
This is my first "Finished" Post so try and not rip me a new one!

Kind Regards,

-Shea

HEE-HEE nice concept. Animation was a little stiff, but I'd love to have the image you attached as a huge wallpaper. Maybe poster sized that I could hang up. :applause:

the frog looks kinda stiff.. okay real stiff. and the voice bugs my ears.

other than that i like it.

Funny that I'm getting "stiffed" because I especially worked to make the frog relaxed. The way his arms fall when he enters the frame and any time he finishes a move... Also I thought the exit was nicely done, loose and with character. BTW - The cingular logo's are meant to be stiff.

Also I did use character studio, but only in freeform mode.
So if anybody can make less vague suggestions about how to improve my animation I'm still listening.

Tnx,

hmm.. well its off the top of my head because the vid is at work and im stuck here on 56K but if i remember correctly the arms swing alot but the elbows dont bend a whole lot neither do the knees.

maybe it has something to do with the fact that the torso has no moveable areas either...

The reflections were too obvious also, i think you are going for a toyish texture but i still think they are a little much. maybe just tone them down a tiny bit. i remember thinking what the hell is that on his chest.

those are my opinions but like i said, i dont know how to animate yet so you are already way further along than i am....

on a positive note, i thought the tongue was great. and the singular characters were done nicely.

Heheh, nice job with the parody. I love anything that gets a chuckle or two out of me.

About the stiff animation comments though, I'm gonna have to agree with them. Some of the things I noticed that I think might help...

- The hips really stood out as being "stiff" His center of gravity shouldn't always be exactly in the center. I stood up and acted out the beginning when he jumped down and found even in that point when I'm focused mostly straight ahead, a little more of my weight is on my right foot, leaning forward a bit, with my knees slightly bent, and maybe my left foot stretched out to the side a bit more. You'll know this part better than me, but when I watched it I kind of got the feeling the frog, being the hunter, is readying himself to strike, so he wouldn't be standing there straight up and down for the most part.

- The spine looks really stiff too. When he bends to grab the logos with his tongue, he only bends the lower back. I think it would look better with a little more curvature throughout the spine. Well, at least it looks like it from the angle, I've watched it a couple times and I'm not sure if the upper torso is bending or not. If it is and I'm wrong about it being so rigid, maybe bend it a little more?

- The only other thing that really bothered me was the symmetry of the arms. Break it up a little. Have the right arm hit a little higher than the left, and have the left hit a little further away from the body than the right (as an example).

I really like the logo animations though. I think you've captured their character nicely :) And the fall of the arms is nice as well, but there I think the symmetry of the poses takes away from that a bit.

I hope this didn't come across as ripping you a new one. Overall I like it, but if you're able to loosen the frog up a little bit, the piece will look that much better.

Good luck :)

Well...i have to agree, unfortunately, that it was a bit stiff. I say stiff because when his arms flop down (and do flow nicely), his WHOLE arm moves rather than his forearm, hands, and fingers. Know what i mean? You have it so the whole arm moves rather than all the individual (spell check) arm parts. (this goes for his legs too... :hmm: )

My other complaint was the voice and frog reflection. I agree with mr2 monster in that the reflections were just a bit too much. A toyish texture would look awesome. The voice was just too "deep" for me, i couldn't understand much of what he was saying.

The tongue was fantastic though. Nice job with that and the cingular characters.

Great stepping stone, and good job man! Keep it up!

Well now, thanks for the more comprehensive feedback.

BTW - His COM is not always on center, I have learned to apreciate that lil disc that biped provides. I hope you did not suffer any pain in your recreation! I acted out some of the moves as well.

As for the other feedback - I do have a limitation in just how much I can flex this character - too much and his belly folds or his hips deform oddly - so one of the lessons of this study was definately about rigging and parameterization for animation.

thanks again,

Caio.

Heheh, nah, my "recreation" was a little hop where I tried to act like I just dropped 10 feet as I landed, so definately no harm there.

For the center of gravity comment you're probably right. I'm still getting my feet wet compared to many of the animators here, so I'll admit my eye isn't as well developed as most. Oh well, I hope the other comments were still of some use to you :)
