View Full Version : Me Me Me!
sza_sam 04-29-2003, 12:01 AM Yo, here is something I've been cooking up. It is for a model I'm doing at school for my portfolio.
I had to make a face so I chose mine.
I'll post a pic of my model sheet so you can tell me how I'm doing.

pretty good so far, although I wouldn't say that that is you. The forehead is to flat. The lip dimple is not quite right, take another pass at that, and the inside corners of your eyes go down a little bit more that what you have in your model. It is definately comming along pretty well. Post updates, and wireframes if you want help on that too...
oh and the mouth is too wide on your model... :D

Peep this!
This is what I worked on last night.
Thanks for the suggestions DevonH, I'll put them to play later on today.

Looks good! I think that maybe the corners of the eyes are a little too sharp and the top of the nose looks a bit too pinched, but other than that great similarity.

coming along nicely dude...it looks much better than teh first one. my only critic goes to the eyebroews area..they don't resemble yours, and that's it

Oh yeah, here is the body I started. It might be my face I'm going for but these are not my abs.
I know it needs lots of work, I just wanted to show me progress.

Interesting that you chose to model at the slant.. Very good self-portrait.

I guess I should explain a little about this project.
I needed a face and was like, "Hey... I don't need a model sheet I'll just use my face."
So really it doesn't need to look like me, I just like the fact taht it does.
But why not go all out, right?
So bring it on.

well in that case, your models nose is a little bit different than yours. you should widen the bridge of the nose between the eyes a bit on your model since yours is wider than that.

one suggestion for the future, when using a set of shots try and make it so the head is more or less vertical so that it is easier to model

Listen, I have a lot of respect for you and everyone else busting their butts, workng in cg. So forgive my crits, and ignore them if you wish.
If you want to make a self-portrait, and not an abstract ingame model, you can't mirror on side of your face and make a symetrical reference image - it simply will start you off on the wrong foot - there will be a similarity, but it will never look just like you. Also, and this is evident in your reference pic. You've managed to squish your head laterally, as the bridge of you nose in the photo looks very thin, moreover the bridge on the model is narrower still.
Also, by using ref with such a huge tilt to your face, you're going to stumble, in terms of approachable accuracy, since you are lacking information about the bottom of the nose and the underside of the brow region.
That said, still a fine model in it's own right, and it shows a lot of effort. Of course since it's a self portrait, I'm guessing a handy mirror may solve a few of your problems, but these are still bad habits to get into - especially when you want to move on to other characters and portraits.
