Title: catalog cover illustration "H2004"
Name: Bruce Kaiser
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Another catalog cover illustration with the theme of a late 50s early 60s small town street with a small auto parts store, except it's selling all these cool parts hot rod parts from today. And that purple 33 Ford roadster looks like it dropped right out of a science fiction movie of the day.

This was done about 75% designers gouache on board scanned in and finished in Photoshop. This was done in 2004 and I started to use Photoshop more and more to get me out of time crunches. I would rough in areas with the gouache and then use photoshop to clone the area or do something like the blue reflection on the hood of the truck or the light beams on the sign that I would have airbrushed but wouldn't have the time to do over if I screwed it up. I will also use Photoshop to correct sizing or scale sometimes where I would have been stuck before.

I don't know. When I look at an older piece like this that still has some traditional work in it, it seams to have more punch than the newer Painter cover of the cars in the desert. Maybe just because it's a night scene.

What do you think? I would enjoy your comments.

Thanks

I like it. Reminds me of my blue collar days. Nice work.
