A new application called Sprouthttp://i.ixnp.com/images/v3.13/t.gif (http://www.sproutbuilder.com/), is launching in private beta at DEMO today, and it promises to make the creation of Flash applets a whole lot easier.

Sprout is a browser-based, WYSIWYG editor for Flash with an interface reminiscent of Photoshop or Dreamweaver. Designers can use it to create, publish and track Flash widgets, websites and mashups, thereby obviating the need for them to work with programmers who would cost time and money, and who might not execute designs satisfactorily.

So for us non-web developer-types, can someone explain if this is an alternative to the Flash CS3 program itself, or an add-on tool??

I am consufed both because I admittedly don't know a ton about Flash, but also because I thought that Flash itself was already WYSIWYG.

Whilst it's closed Beta and the video is taking it's time to load I'll take a wild stab in the dark and suggest it's not a replacement for the full Flash program. Of course it all depends on what you want to do with Flash or Sprout. I'm guessing Sprout is to Flash what Adobe Photodeluxe is to Photoshop. It's simple, automated ways of doing tasks in Flash and there's nothing wrong with that but as a programmer I reckon Sprout would not appeal to you quite as much as Flash.

Looks like a really handy tool for those web banner developers etc... If you watch the video to the end it is also a content manager which allows you to update and deploy to pretty much any facebook/myspace type site and I would imagine to the standard web formats with much ease. Looks like one to follow for sure...
