Remotion Plugins from

http://www.remotion.de.vu

DiTools - A suite of deformers and generators currently version 0.8 soon to be 0.9. Includes:

Dicloner - Clone an object on the verteces of another object taking into account the objects texture for many parameters.

DiShaper - Realtime displacement, allows you to take multiple textures and displace an object in any direction with them, shows the displacement in the viewport.

DiSplineGen -Generates splines from the verteces of another object. Great procedural modelling tool (and also neat for fields of corn or hair).

DiParametric - Parametric shape generator

Also contains a couple of cool shaders that work with the ditools plugins.

TDEM - Particle plugins which allow some serious control of the standard non thinking particles particle system in Cinema. These tags and objects allow you to emit from teh surface on an object, to constrain an objects surface to the particles, to give the particles goals, to generate splines that react to particle generators (gravity etc) like hair would.

ASE Exporter - Apparently for those Unreal Tournament files or something, maybe someone else can explain this one better than me

And I have made a few plugins myself

http://www.peranders.com/c4d8

Go to the library area of Renderzone.

Camera Gaffer - A tag that when applied to a camera modifies the rotation behaviour in a number of different ways for better modelling control.

Julienne - Slices a selection or object a set number of times in any direction evenly.

Flush Select - Allows you to expand your current selection out to the edges of that "plane" on your object. Can also with a little ingenuity be used to select polygon belts.

Per-Anders

oh and i just addded one

MaxUV Tools - Copy/Paste UV polys points, Rotate UV's, Flip UV's, Smooth bad UV joins, Maximise UV's in UV space. A suite of UV Texture manipulation plugins for all sorts.

MSA and HELIX by Mikael Sterner (NOT for free)

Use MSA all the time!

http://www.xlentplugs.com/

MSA (Multiple Spline Attach) allows for things like aniimateable chain links, and beads on a string. Can be used in conjunction with Helix for things like DNA with all the nucleotides/basepairs aligned and twisted properly. All kinds of animateable parameters.

Helix allows you to wrap a helix around a spline and the spline can control the movement of the helix as well. Much better than the spline primitve spiral that comes with C4d.

I have put a sample C.O.F.F.E.E plugin and some reusable XML Classes on my site:

http://www.tinrocket.com/content/code/000037.html

Description of plugin and classes:

CustomXMLExport is a sample filter plugin that allows you to export CINEMA 4D scenes as XML. This sample plugin shows how to use the XML classes in the file, "tinrocketXML.coh", which formats your content and structure into a valid XML file.

The XML classes were written to facilitate C4D scene, object & data export for game & software development purposes. This sample plugin could be adapted to your software project's production pipeline very easily.

This plugin is independent of the native C4D XML format, which is not documented and had recently disapeared for one release (8.0). It is therefore available for your use when the built-in options for exporting your scenes in a human-readable format is not supported by C4D.

Free, requires CINEMA 4D v7.3 or v8.x and higher.

Thanks,
John Balestrieri

Hi, there is a Plugin from me.

TargetZero:

This Plugin sets the position and rotation data of an object to zero. If the object is in a hierarchy, then the object takes over the data of its over object. It is a very simple Plugin, if one builds however the Icon into its layout, can it the Workflow increase.

Have fun.

There is some great stuff being developed - thanks to all involved!
I just found this yesterday...
Check out 'MoveShearRotate' at:

http://www.welter-4d.de/plugins.html

I've no connection with the author - I'm just a user happy to find this plug, which goes some way to filling a long standing gap in C4D - the ability to rotate points around a user defined centre*.

The author has already had requests to extend the functionality to include 'scale', and to enable an edge to act as a selected axis of rotation.

This guy deserves some support. His other plugs are also excellent.

Mike Abbott

* Even the author himself thinks this 'positionable centre of rotation' functionality ought to be part of the normal toolset. He's absolutelty right IMO.

yes the cellular shader is truly awesome, I love it a lot, and point collapse replaces the need for weld tools, quicker faster and more control in a single rather than two additional as well as the original weld.

powerAxis1.0 (http://www.astrofish.com/powerAxis/powerAxis.html) now available.

This plugin provides full control over the modelling axes in Cinema4D R8, providing a significant increase in the modeller functionality.

This allows you to rotate and scale arbitrary vertex/edge/poly selections around arbitrary locations, rather than the fixed location (centre of bounding box of current selection) that C4D normally gives you.

E.g. Rotate a polygon selection around one of its own edges, or if you want something more complex, how about scaling an edge selection about a vertex, whilst been constrained to being parallel to an edge from a different object...

It also provides tools for positioning entire objects such that a specific feature is placed where you want it - e.g. placing one object on another so that they have co-planar faces, etc.

Cost is $30, and a demo is available.

Works for Macs and PC, available for Cinema4D R8 only.

QikiLoft
Instantly lofts a spline across a straight line.

Why might this be useful?
If you like me, I tend to create a spline, create some duplicates in a line, then manually add each spline to a loft object one by one in the correct order. Then I like to shape the splines to get my desired shape.
QikiLoft speeds this process up

(Reposted from main forum)

Hi polygon fans,

I've written a free plugin 'geomCheck' whose purpose in life is to find bad geometry in your meshes.
This should help track down the causes of some of those rendering artefacts and subdivision oddities that tend to creep in and can be hard to track down.

It should work on Mac and PC, for C4D 6.3 and above.

Select a polygon object, use the plugin and it will list the details of any bad geometry that it finds in the console window.
At the same time, it selects all of the polygons that have problems, and also selects all vertices that are associated with open edges/mesh cracks so you can see where the problems are.

(Note: It would be better if it selected edges, but it's written in Coffee, and coffee can't make edge selections, so you have to manually convert from vertex to edge, or just look at the verts).

The download includes PDF documentation which describes the six different types of problem that it can find, and how to fix them. An example file which demonstrates each of these problems is also provided.

[SHAMELESS PLUG]
The plugin is free, but if you find it useful may I suggest that you might like to buy spinPoly, which can help you easily fix most of the problems that geomCheck finds. And it won't upset your UVW maps either. And it's cheap...
[/SHAMELESS PLUG]

Anyway, go get geomCheck from my website (http://www.astrofish.com)

Cheers - Steve

Support for this plugin has been so overwhelming that I have added the first step in supporting DAZ|Studio import by way of the "OBJ for Bryce 5" export option. More support to come thanks to the great people over at Daz3d!

In addition to this, the code base has been unified for Windows and MacOS to facilitate easier updating/maintenance and the parse algorithms have been updated to increase parsing speed.

Finally, development of interPoser Pro is in progress. Although it may be some months before a beta release is announced, it is with great pleasure that I make this announcement. Every effort will be made to create a stable, full-featured, and mind-blowing plugin. http://www.planit3d.com/source/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Not bad, but without tighter integration with the material editor and more control over nodes, its purpose is a little more limited.

My three biggest peeves were...
1) Having to leave tree view to edit parameters was a letdown.
2) Being unable to manually create or drag branches in tree view was equally disappointing.
3) Not knowing until I checked my console window that 9.100+ was required did a mind trip on me. :) (I forgot to update my C4D when I reinstalled it yesterday. Oops.. :p)

Still, this is a nice step toward a functional shader tree system.

EDIT>> Tree View just crashed while I was navigating the tree (with pictures enabled). Oh well. (R9.1, P4-3.06GHz, WinXP SP2, OGL Rendering, NVIDIA GF4)

I just thought I post two little helpers I created:

Disable MaterialsMaterials are disabled by restricting them to a selection that starts with "off#". Existing restrictions are left intact but prependend with "off#" also. Enabling the Materials again restores the original restrictions.

This one is useful if you want to do "Clay" renderings of already textured scenes.

Requires release 9.1 as it uses the enhanced COFFEE syntax with # operator introduced in 9.1
Create Null HierarchyDuplicates a selected hierarchy by creating a new hierarchy using nulls. The original object's name (plus appended .null), position and orientation is duplicated.

This is handy if you want to created targets for the use with Pose Mixer. Instead of duplicating the original objects you now can have a lightweight null hierarachy for the poses.

Tested with release 8.5 but should work with earlier versions as well.

You can download both plugins here:
http://www.codesign.at/en/downloads.html

Both plugins are COFFEE plugins and are distributed in source under a BSD style license.

SplitSelection was prompted by a request to split selection tag selections when working with Symmetry objects.

When you make the Symmetry object editable, your original selection tags get both sides of the symmetry in selections. This plugin lets you select a set of tags and then splits the selections according to the Mirror Plane and the side thereof on which the originals resided. The result is two selection tags, the original containing the original selection set and a new tag which contains the mirrored set. And to make the process complete, prefixes can be attached automatically to the tag names (such as 'Left_' or 'Right_') .

Works with Point, Polygon, Edge selection tags and VertexMap tags. Just setup, select tags, and 'Split'.

Edge selection tags resolved - boy, was that painful! ;)

Download SplitSelection (http://www.kuroyumes-developmentzone.com/c4d_plugins.html).

New free plugin for R8+ (PC only) to add or update a 'Normal Tag' to your polygonal mesh objects.

From the included readme file:

With the release of version 8.0 (?? maybe it was 8.2 or 8.5) Cinema 4D now has a 'Normal' Tag that can be associated with polygonal mesh objects. Normals (or 'vertex normals') are basically a unit vector that is perpendicular to the face of a polygon (for face normals), or the average of all the face normals that surround a vertex (for vertex normals). Face Normals can be used to determine whether a polygon is facing the camera, or away from it, so it's used in Backface Culling, as well as simple (flat) shading models. Vertex Normals are used in lighting calculations to generate smooth-shading.

Most applications (including Cinema 4D) these days don't require that the mesh have explicit Normal data attached to it, instead, they generate that information internally at runtime. However, there are some cases where you might want the output file to have the Normal information written in it (my Riptide .obj import/export plugin can read/write Normal information - IF the tag exists before exporting, or IF the normals exist in the file before importing).

So, generally speaking, if you don't know why you'd need a Normal Tag, you probably don't - C4D doesn't need a Normal Tag on a mesh in order to render it correctly... and in fact, many tools and plugins might not update the tag correctly, causing strange shading errors, once you start slicing the mesh up (adding/removing vertices). If/When this happens, you can either:

a) delete the Normal Tag
b) use this plugin to update the Normal Tag :)

...so what this plugin does is create a Normal Tag (normal vector information for each vertex of each polygon) on a polygonal mesh. If the mesh already has a Normal Tag, it deletes that and attaches the new/updated one.

p.s. I wrote this plugin because I didn't see any way within C4D to create a Normal Tag, so if it's there, or someone else already wrote this plugin... oops :).

You can find the plugin at Spanki's Prop Shop (http://www.skinprops.com/) on the C4D page.

Have fun!

Hello,

there is new UVDeformer version. Now for R9. PC only, however. Sorry.

The new version should be easier to use.
At least you don't necessarily need a UV-mapped object anymore. Instead you can use pairs of identical objects. Identical except for point positions, of course. One of the objects should be somewhat planar, as a uv-map replacement.
There are quite a lot of changes. It should generally be faster and more reliable. There are more options for controlling the uv-map positioning, the displacement direction. You can change most of the options on a per-child basis by using a special UVDeformer Tag.
Oh.. and i tried to make a nice manual and videos, which i hope, help to get started.

Hey there,
With this plugin you can use the same Shader (even complex ones with layers) in multiple channels, shaders and even Materials.
So if you like to have the same shader in the color and the displacement channel, you just set a Reference Shader in the Displacement channel, and that's it. every changes to the color-shader now also affect the shader in the displacement.

For insertion you can browse through a tree of your materials and shaders like this:

http://www.cnx-solutions.de/blackstar/refshader/images/tut_ani2.gif

for more infos please visit our site at
www.blackstar-solutions.de (http://www.blackstar-solutions.de)

and look at the manual there.
There are also some video tutorials on the page.

greetings to you all,

affa

I have decided to reduce the price of my Cinema4D / BodyPaint 3D Undertow Plugin (http://skinprops.com/undertow.php) by 50% to make it easier for those people using the demo version enjoy the additional capabilities of the full version.

The price has been reduced from $24.95 to just $12.50 USD (via PayPal).

[The Undertow plugin is a suite of tools for use primarily inside BodyPaint 3D's UV Edit mode, but there are also a few for use in the Cinema4D modeller. There is an Online Manual (http://skinprops.com/undertow/index.htm) available that describes each tool. If you haven't tried it yet, there is also a demo version of the plugin available in the downloads (http://skinprops.com/download.php]downloads[/link) section (some functionality is limited in the demo version).]

A couple of new plugins here.

EdgeShade (http://www.biomekk.com/index.php?page=1&cat=107&itm=18) which primarily puts a bevel on hard edges of your object.

and

Enhance:C4D (http://www.biomekk.com/index.php?page=1&cat=107&itm=1) which is a set of 178 procedural shaders.

I've also got some cool freebies floating around, so have a look around my site here (http://www.biomekk.com).

It's me again :)....

I have just posted a Free v1.20 update to my Undertow plugin. This update includes:

- 3 new tools added:

Set Axis - Sets the mesh object's origin to the center of the selected polys/points - see the docs (http://skinprops.com/undertow/index.htm) for details.
UV ShiftU - Shifts uv polygons to the left or right edge of the uv-mapping space - see the docs (http://skinprops.com/undertow/index.htm) for details.
UV ShiftV - Shifts uv polygons to the bottom or top edge of the uv-mapping space - see the docs (http://skinprops.com/undertow/index.htm) for details.

- some additional functionality added to the UV CenterU and UV CenterV commands.

- see notes for changes with UV TileU and UV TileV commands.

- fixed a bug with the new UV Map Box command when fewer than all polygons of the mesh were selected. This fix also affected the other mapping commands (selected polygons will now be mapped as if all polygons were selected).

- **Pricing for the licensed version will increase on or immediately after Dec. 10th 2007** [the new pricing will only apply to new registrations after the 10th - this and future minor revisions are still a free upgrade for current owners]

As usual, there is a DEMO version available in the download area of my site (http://skinprops.com/) (some features are disabled in the DEMO version).

Hi,

I created my very first C4D plugin, thanks to 'The COFFEE Book' :) I thought it would be a good idea sharing it with the c4d community.

http://www.patrickeischen.com/plugins/fastCheck/images/banner.jpg

LINK TO THE DOWNLOAD (http://www.patrickeischen.com/fastCheck.php)

The purpose of this (very small) plugin is to speed up the creating and applying of a checkerboard texture in Cinema 4D. When adjusting the UV coordinates, I often create a checkerboard material and apply it to the model which makes working with the UVs easier. To do this you have to create a new material and you have to create a new Checkerboard surface in the color channel. This material has to be applied to the object and finally you have to adjust the scale of the checkerboard. Plenty of unnecessary mouse clicks.

With this plugin creating and applying the checkerboard texture will be realised with 1 single mouse click. Adjusting the size of the checkerboard is done with a slider. You also have the possibility to chose between 3 different checkerboard textures.

This screenshot should make it clear what this plugin realizes

http://www.patrickeischen.com/plugins/fastCheck/images/image_03.jpg

I know this sounds very unspectecular and you're right, it is. But anyway, you might find it usefull so I made it available on my site.

Howdy,

I've recently released a new plugin called CD Transfer Tools. This plugin is a workflow plugin which makes transferring objects around in the scene a bit easier. The transfer commands included are: CD Transfer, CD Transfer Mirror, CD Transfer Replace, CD Transfer Swap, CD Transfer Align and CD Transfer Links. There is also a CD Coordinates Manager which allows you to work in real world units. This makes it possible to set the unit scale and to convert between units:
http://www.cactus3d.com/CDCoords.mov

I've recorded a complete video manual/tutorial which you can download here:
http://www.c4dportal.com/cactusdan/CDTransferTools.zip

It's a long one at 35 minutes (49 mb), but it should give you a complete description of the plugin's features. ;)

The plugin is now available from my web site:
http://www.cactus3d.com/Plugins.html

I hope you find the new plugin useful. :)

SteadyCHAN is now updated to Export and Import chan files
used by i.e. Nuke and Terragen2 Animation.

SteadyCHANEXPORT is typically a one button function.
SteadyCHANIMPORT may need a few extra steps for Camera
animation import.

Please read the included SteadyCHAN_READ_ME.txt
for detailed information.

SteadyCHAN is tested in R10.5 to R11.5.
It may work in R10 but will not install in earlier versions.

The price is Euro1700 / USD2300.
But there is a 100% discount for the time being :)

Download at: tcastudios (http://tcastudios.com) -> xfiles

That is awesome Lennart! I will certainly test this out with NUKE. I've always been curious about Terragen 2 as well but never tried it since their wasn't a connection to C4D.

You have my USD2300 ;).

Oh, so .chan is a Terragen extension? And with this plug I can import landscapes, does that include materials too?

I think I´m gonna have me some fun and download the tg demo!

Thanks :)

@Ekenryd, you need the Terragen2 -Animation- edition
for using chan files. AFAIK, there is no demo of the Animation version atm……

The chan format is a simple generic file with
Time, Position, Rotation and vertical FOV info.

There's no geometry nor material info involved.
The core idea is to be able to transfer Camera animation
between different apps in a simple way.

There are chan export/import scripts for most apps out there
like Modo, XSI, Maya etc.

@Josh, thanks! And just so you know, there is no refund! :)

@René, Thanks.

I updated my webpage now with a description of uv deformer and a few of example scenes.

About the old manual ... Your support is appreciated, but ... well i didn't take the time yet to look over it and i don't want to make it public now since some things have probably changed and maybe i could also improve it.

Btw the current uv deformer has some minor bugs (object orientation and failures when using generator/deformed objects). At least in the R11 version. Fixes are on my todo list.

@Ilay: Interesting. What is it with the different appearance of the upper/lower hemispheres?

Hola,

a new plugin is born.:) especially for all who want to bake thinking particel setups and don't own the MOCCA module.

http://www.smart-page.net/smartprs/SmartPrs.jpg

SmartPRS is a Tag that records position, rotation and scaling of an object to key frames.

This is most useful when working with Xpresso/TP simulations, because they can now be exported to other software packages or be edited manually.

Features and usage are shown in the demonstration video:
http://www.smart-page.net/smartprs

The plug-in is available for all C4D versions R10+ and costs saucy 5,- euros.

I'm new to CG society, but wanted to post a plugin I've had available since last July before it becomes obsolete. To import scientifically accurate DNA, RNA, protein, sugar, lipids, etc., download PDB2Surface from:
http://www.grahamj.com/plugins-tutorials.php

PDB to Surface:
allows a user to quickly import a Protein DataBank file as a metaballed point cloud to simulate a molecular surface using C4D's native tools.
My friend and I have a new plugin coming out soon that has many more options, but this one is still useful because most medical illustrators and scientific illustrators just want to create a surface model. This plugin does it fast- very fast. It can read and import a dozen large PDB files including GroEL and ribosomes in less than 1/100th of a second (it takes the viewport several seconds to update the metaball, but the data gets brought in fast.)
You can import scientifically accurate DNA e.g.,
http://www.pdb.org/pdb/explore/explore.do?structureId=1BNA
or a typical protein, e.g.,
http://www.pdb.org/pdb/explore/explore.do?structureId=1CRN
The website has a tutorial page with instructions for installation and use. More soon.

Greetings Flingster,
• The point of this particular style of mesh is quite specifically to use metaballs. It gives the user control and flexibility to mimic a variety of scientifically relevant surface types and more importantly, to animate between them. Medical Illustrators in my world have been using this technique preferentially for years which is why I opted to base the plugin around that particular setup. Once you have something you like, you just opt for current state to object to crush it down to polygons according to the render subdivision setting, then turn off the original metaball object. I have versions that create CPK (sphere) models, as well as ball and stick, etc, but something much more comprehensive will take over soon:
• A major plugin we'll be releasing in a few weeks will be able to do this and several thousand other operations, including instant polygon objects.
• As a sidenote, however, I would love to hear about volumetric technologies. I'll try to do a search for Remo as you suggest to see what's up.
Thanks for the feedback,
Graham

I've posted a repaired version of PDB to Surface plugin. While under the hood, I made a couple minor enhancements- the redraw updates automatically, I've set defaults for small molecules to have finer meshes, and I've centered the metaball about the point cloud for easy manipulation:
http://www.grahamj.com/plugins-tutorials.php

That was embarrassing, but I'm not a bona fide coder. The version I had posted did not work with 11.5 on Windows or Mac- I had my working developer version running when I made the switch and had previously modified some of my general functions, so I never noticed the problem.
Sorry about the public mixup.
Thanks to Flip for pointing this out,
Graham

Science man, science! I know meatball was a joke, but for others new to the world of cell biology, I will explain the significance of that little blob.
In particular, this series of plugins is designed for animators and illustrators specializing in molecular and cellular biology or for scientists dabbling in animation. The protein Flip shows in his screengrab is crambin which is the poster child, or "hello world" of computational biology. Proteins, and molecules in general, come in all shapes and sizes as indicated by the famous illustrations of David Goodsell. http://www.pdb.org/pdb/explore/motm.do Once you start to work with them, you appreciate the tremendous diversity, how function is indicated by form, and how much more strange real life can be when compared to imagined alien worlds. This screengrab shows a more recognizable molecule, B-form DNA, I imported with PDB to Surface (rendered with Base80's favorite color scheme to highlight the two (5' to 3' and 3' to 5') strands):
http://grahamj.com/CGtalk/GrahamPDBtoSurface_bdna_1.jpg
This is not a ladder twisted to some random parameter, as seen in any given forensics TV drama, but an Angstrom-accurate representation of ideal (theoretical) Watson and Crick base-paired DNA generated computationally with Quanta by Robert Tan- a rotating shot of a ladder representation of this very model as rendered in the software package "Ribbons" by Mike Carson, was flashed on the screen in the first Jurassic Park movie circa 1992.
I've posted a couple of my ancient animations of proteins in action along with some very terse experiments on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/grahamj21#g/u
specifically:
http://www.youtube.com/user/grahamj21#p/u/45/4AnPVuzF7CA
and
http://www.youtube.com/user/grahamj21#p/u/53/PjdPTY1wHdQ
Most of these are dry for CGsociety standards because they are just short movies used in classrooms to teach college students about biology and have corresponding budgets, but these research intensive clips have been the source of reference and inspiration for more recent, relatively high budget movies like the "Inner Life of the Cell" by Harvard/XVIVO. http://www.studiodaily.com/main/searchlist/6850.html While this is still not a hollywood caliber movie, and it bears a lot of scientific inaccuracy, it did prove to be a big step towards getting the general public or non-biology students interested in this important and fascinating subject matter, which ultimately leads to more government funding for basic scientific research.
A major aim of my PhD work is to provide tools that will make it easier for professional animators to access this type of data as a starting point or at least as a reference for their model building (as well as rigging and a variety of dynamics simulations in our soon to be released plugin) in an effort to improve the public face of science... again, in this case, fact is both stranger and more riveting than fiction, and every day, science uncovers more about how these little beasts made of atoms function and interact as collections of biological nano-machines to make our cells, our tissues, our organs, our bodies, and ultimately our societies function!
Hope this helps- Cheers,
Graham

if i wanted to import something transgenic what would i look for btw?

gj210
05-29-2010, 06:51 AM
Transfer of a gene from one species to another...
Short answer: One way, at the molecular level, is to go to pdb.org then type 'trangenic' into the search field. Check out results here: trangenicPDB (http://www.pdb.org/pdb/results/results.do?outformat=&qrid=7DB45FEC&tabtoshow=Current)

No worries, I'm really glad you made the meatball joke (and yes, I know and appreciate that it was a joke), but it reminded that most of the world does view these blobs as... blobs, so I just wanted to clarify for any future animators turned science animators the importance of how and why the blobs differ.

Long answer:
As for transgenic- before I go off on a boring rant, most of what I'm about to describe is beautifully visualized and soundtracked by the worlds' greatest molecular animator Drew Berry and his sound guy Francois Tetaz. DNA packaging starts around 1:20 in the Body Code movie, DNA replication at ~2:55, transcription at 3:50, and translation at 5:10 on the following page. (This leads to an interesting story about a disease, and there are fascinating facts and more details about DNA at 7:45):
http://www.wehi.edu.au/education/wehi-tv/

Clear throat and start again- As for transgenic- an isolated protein molecule or DNA strand wouldn't look very interesting at this level- one blob slightly different than another blob, or more of some blob(s) or less of another than there used to be before the gene transfer. DNA looks more or less the same to humans from one gene to the next- just a bunch of Adenines, Thymines, Guanines, and Cytosines strung together in varied orders. Genes are enormous- there are only 24 base pairs in the previous posted image, 3 base pairs code for one amino acid, and a typical protein in your body has several hundred or even thousands of amino acids, plus lots of "junk" DNA in and around the gene. DNA is wrapped about tiny cylinders inside of eukaryotic cells to help keep it organized for easier packaging and to make it inaccessible to "transcription" machinery that initiates the protein production process (See movie above!)
The effects of the "transgene" in the host cell/organism, or phenotype, are the interesting part- e.g., at extremes we have seen green glowing rabbits Alba the glowing bunny (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alba_(rabbit)) or questionably disturbing GMO crops Monsanto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto). Such phenotypes are the results of genes being added or subtracted, turned on or off, etc., sometimes naturally, sometimes via human manipulation that result in signaling cascades where an otherwise small/subtle event gets amplified multifold. Though genetics are not directly related and far more complex, the best analogy I can think of for this is Drew Berry's movie showing Signal Transduction leading to cell death that can be triggered by a single signal from the cell surface (much the way a single match can initiate a forest fire)... not a transgenic effect, but a great way to tell a similarly complex and molecularly related story. Apoptosis (http://www.wehi.edu.au/education/wehi-tv/?page=2)
Most importantly, this goes a long way towards implying how random stochastic motion amongst objects that bear increased probabilities for interaction (particular arrangements of atoms) as guided by the laws of thermodynamics can lead to complicated outcomes for other molecules, organelles, cells, tissues, organs, and organisms.

If you find the above sentence "unbelievable", check out my Principle Investigator, Art Olson's amazing tangible model, the self assembling plastic virus (http://mgl.scripps.edu/projects/tangible_models/movies_repo/TangibleModels/self-assembling-virus-intermed.mov)

Wow, I should go home instead of vomiting more words all over this thread.
Cheers,
Graham

I absolutely love Drew Barry's work, I've been aware with him for awhile and I also think he is the gold standard currently in bio-medical visualization.

Hi Johan and Flingster,
Yeah, sorry about the loquacious posting on this board. I'm new to forums in general and not familiar with the etiquette- this all seems related to the plugin I posted, but is definitely a discussion well beyond the nuts and bolts. Is it possible for us, as posters, to move these entries?
I know Nick Woolridge well. He is now the director of that UToronto program and a brilliant and helpful individual! His students create the finest animations in our niche industry. We are members of an Association of Medical Illustrators and he often brings knowledge from this CGsociety forum over to our members little Medical C4D Listserve. It would be good to start a new topic in the main forum, outside of Cinema 4D about Scientific CG, and perhaps another inside of C4D for specific questions. I'll see if Nick knows how to get that started.

I like to work in a clean environment. Well, at least in my 3D scenes ;-)
This means that, when I create new elements for a scene, sometimes I create a new document just to have a clean start and then I copy/paste the new element to the main scene.
However, sometimes I would prefer to create the new element in the main scene itself, if only I could make all the other elements in the scene disappear momentarily. Also, sometimes I would like to edit a specific element in a scene but I would like to have it isolated while doing so.
I know I can assign the object to a layer and set the layer to Solo mode. But that is not as easy as simply pressing a key or key combination and have my selected object(s) in solo mode and them, pressing the key again, have my scene in full view again.
That is why I created AnSolo. It does just that: the selected objects remain visible and the rest of the scene disappears. Choosing AnSolo again, the view returns to its original state.
In my case, I assigned it the key-combo Shift+S. Check out how easy it is:

www.ruimac.com/movies/AnSolo.mov

I already have a price in mind but I would like to know how much would you guys be willing to pay for such a tool :-)
Lets call it a... market survey ;-)
Comments are always welcome.

I "finished" two new plugins. Not yet for R12 tough.

Transform
This is a tool plugin inspired by the transform tool in Photoshop for example. It has the special ability to change the size parameters of the basic primitive objects and scale these objects non-uniformly. It displays a cage with handles which can be dragged to move, scale, rotate and shear the selection. It also displays four icons which can be clicked to switch between modes. Snapping is supported, meaning the handles snap accordingly.

TimeShift
This is a shader plugin to change the time value for the evaluation of another shader. The main purpose of this plugin is to be able to use the same animated texture several times, at different times without having to create a lot of copies of virtually the same material.

Now it's time to convert everything to R12 :-/

Btw. i'm thinking about commercialising all of my plugins with the transition to R12. Something like two or three packages, one with shaders, one with modeling tools. Each package for a relatively small amount of money, maybe 30 euros or so.

The embedded Python Molecular Viewer (ePMV) runs molecular modeling software directly inside of a variety of professional 3D animation applications (hosts), including (and especially :buttrock: ) Cinema 4D, to provide simultaneous access the capabilities that each system offers. Open and manipulate various scientific data formats, for example, protein data bank PDB files, a variety of volumetric data types, chemical models and more.
ePMV Introduction On YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/grahamj21#p/u/3/-qHtp4ehseA)

http://mgldev.scripps.edu/projects/ePMV/wiki/images/1/13/EPMVribbon1.jpg (http://www.vbulletin.com)

For more information about ePMV (installation, documentation, tutorials, galleries, etc...) please visit the wiki : http://mgldev.scripps.edu/projects/ePMV/wiki

• As of November 11, 2010, the installation procedure has been greatly clarified and simplified and no longer requires command-line interfacing.
• This alpha release is very stable and offers many new features compared to the September 2010 version.
• Versions are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux and currently run in any of 3 hosts (Blender, Cinema 4D, or Maya).

For information on how ePMV may be useful in your daily work, check out the thread I posted: Science Answers: Cellular and Molecular Biology, Proteins, Lipids, DNA, RNA, etc. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=887192&highlight=science)

This is a massive plugin with a ~15 minute installation procedure. It represents months of hard work from Ludovic Autin to integrate Michel Sanner's Python Molecular Viewer and other scientific algorithms as generically as possible into professional animation packages and will be well worth your while to learn.

VectorWorks Exchange Plugin version 1 need for C4D XL8 for Mac.

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I wanted to import VW files into C4D for rendering.

Does anyone know where I can get it?

Is it still available?

Does anyone sell it?

Would appreciate if someone can contact me about it.

Thanks

Hey thanks for the reply.

Actually, I'm not really concerned whether it's outdated or not. As long as I can import it into Cinema 4D program I have.

It's just that I had an old copy of Cinema 4D 8XL handed to me, so I decided to install it and try it out. It works on any old PowerMac and even the new Intel platform. Remarkably, the interface looks very similar to the new versions and still accepts older plug-ins out there.

So my real objective is to import Vectorworks drawings and render them in Cinema 4D. It doesn't matter how old the thing is, as long as I can render 3d architectural floor plans.
I think the new version of Vectorworks is essentially VW plus the render engine of a "light" version of Cinema 4D thrown in. Other than some walkthrough or basic animation capabilities, I'm not really interested in all these advanced features. I just want a nice rendering engine that takes scaled plans and produces good output which exceeds the quality of the Renderworks engine inside VectorWorks.

Apparently, there was a plug-in that worked very well with version 7 and 8. It's talked about in this website:

http://www.modsynergy.com/review60.htm

And here's what it looked like:

http://www.modsynergy.com/Modsynergy%20files/C4DVectorworksCD.jpg

The VectorWorks CD Plug-In. This includes textures, and some examples. VectorWorks is a CAD based program where you can design, and create real things. For example, when making cars, CAD is used to design and displaying lengths, etc. This is what VectorWorks does and will be covered in a different review...For now here are some examples of CAD created work.

And its compatibility is mentioned on a French Cinema 4D website. Roughly translated it states:

http://forum.cesyam.fr/viewtopic.php?t=108

VectorWorks eXchange R1
The plugin export functions with VectorWorks 9 et 10.
The plugin import functions with CINEMA 4D Release 7, Release 8 and Release 9.
That version is not available commercially anymore.

So if you or anyone else knows about it or where it can be found or purchased, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks very much

xVBakerPro by Ryan Hussain
http://xvisionstudios.com/xvbaker/

The xVBaker Pro Plugin for Cinema 4D allows you to easily convert rigid body dynamic simulations into key-framed objects that can be exported for use with other 3D applications. Once objects are baked, they can exist totally independent of any dynamics tags in C4D. Baking eliminates the need to save out large cache data or re-simulate at render time. You can export a baked animation for use in previous versions of C4D or other programs such as Autodesk Maya.

-> Free Demo available and a Pro version for $20 USD.

Its been ~a year since we announced the α release of ePMV. We've been hard at work adding features and stabilizing/simplifying the installation. We'll announce a 64 bit version and an update for C4Dv13 very soon.

The embedded Python Molecular Viewer (ePMV), runs molecular modeling software directly inside of Cinema 4D (and other hosts).
The combination provides:
• Tools to accurately and instantly build DNA, Proteins, RNA, Drugs and other small molecules, lipid bilayers, etc.
• Tools to assemble professional quality visuals and to perform computational biology experiments with relative ease
• Intuitive GUI workflows that help users set up animations ranging from easy turntable rotations to sophisticated mechanism of action movies
• A common Python Platform that allows users to initiate sophisticated algorithms like molecular dynamics or docking energy calculations on the fly and to interoperate multiple algorithms at the same time on the same model
• One-click updating once installed
• Built upon PMV (http://mgltools.scripps.edu/), one of the worlds most flexible and powerful molecular modeling/graphics software packages
• Download and Install from our website (epmv.scripps.edu) (http://epmv.scripps.edu) and get started with written and video tutorials

By enabling easy exchange of algorithms, ePMV can facilitate interdisciplinary research, smooth communication between broadly diverse specialties and provide a common platform to frame and visualize the increasingly detailed intersection(s) of cellular and molecular biology.

ePMV plugins currently supports:
• Cinema4D 11.5 & 12™ (11.5 died with Py4D expiration)
• Blender 2.49 (& 2.58 on mac) & Linux
• Maya 2011™

Required Modules/R12 version: Any
Platform: Windows & Mac

You may want to notice the recent policy changes in Lennart's tcastudios.

http://www.tcastudios.com/

As of today the two plugin expressions SteadyCAMPRO and SteadyBAKE are filed under xfiles as free downloads for R12.

Both are tested in R13 but are not suited for further development given the rapid development of Python for Cinema4D.

Too bad and very very cool at the same time, len.
Thanks a lot.
Hope that frees up some of your time to dive into new ideas.

Name: ArabicText C4D

http://aescripts.com/images/script_thumbs/st/ArabicTextC4D_lg.jpg

Description: Entering Arabic language text into Cinema 4D without assistance fails because Arabic flows right-to-left while English flows left-to-right. Simply reversing the text does not work because the letters don’t link properly after they are reversed. This plugin deals correctly with medial letterforms and flows the text from right to left.

Hi,

just wanted to announce two plugins I wrote. They are free and open source, so they can be changed to your liking...

ColourTable offers user definable color tables (one per document, one globally in C4D). Colors have names and tables are searchable. Additionally some static tables like RAL, Pantone or CSS3 are provided.
If you're like me, and often have the need to work with defined colors (corporate identity, product colors,...), then this might be for you.

Compatible with Cinema4D R12 and R13, Windows and OS X.

ColourTable home: http://code.google.com/p/colourtable/
Documentation: http://code.google.com/p/colourtable/wiki/Usage

ManualKerning, despite its name, offers not only manual control over kerning distance, x/y offset, scale and rotation of every single character of a MoText object, but also rule based kerning (to define your own kerning tables) and even automatic kerning, as long as the used font contains such information.
To make automatic kerning work, ManualKerning makes use of FreeType2 library. For version 0.0.1 of ManualKerning builds of this library are included, for later versions, it won't be needed any more, as the library will be linked into the actual plugin.

Compatible with Cinema4D R12 and R13, Windows and OS X.

As soon as I have a Mac version, I'll leave a note here.
Unfortunately I own no Mac, nor do I have one in reach. So I need to depend on somebody else. The guy who volunteered to compile it for Mac seems to be quite busy and I really don't want to push him, as he offered to compile it for free. On the other hand the source is open, perhaps somebody else jumps in... we'll see.
At least it's nice, somebody seems to be interested, and I knew beforehand, it's of very little use to have a Windows version only...

I wrote a plugin call record PSR ,which can record all the PSR of the child objects under the parent.
you just need to right click adding a record PSR tag to the parent object, and a dialog will open up ,and ,click the record button ,all the child object's PSR will be recorded ,whatever you change the object's position or rotation later, you activate the tag and click the execute button all the child objects will return to it's recorded state.

I updated this plugin recently, now It can records point object as morph tag ,so now it can records all the bones, Ik controlers, mesh, into one tag . swihch different characters just need one clip.

Thanks to EasyNet the final result will be absolutely realistic and you don't have to use material and texture with alpha channel anymore to build 3D net object.

The plugin works with all editions of Cinema 4D R13/14 (Prime, Broadcast, Visualize, Studio) and with all cinema 4D compatible engine renderers (V-Ray etc).

The procedure to create net is very easy and based on 3 steps:

1) Mark the corners of your net by clicking on the ground object with Point on surface tool. For each click the plugin will create a null support object.

2) Select all null objects just created and call the Build Spline Support tool in order to create the spline cage support. You can choose the dimensions of the cage and the details of the net design pattern.

3) Select all the splines created in the step before and call one of the three Make Cage tools in order to build your final net.

You can choose between one of the following net types Horizontal net pattern Vertical net pattern Hexagonal Honeycomb net pattern.

Each net can be drawn with all spline types: Linear, Cubic, B-Spline, Akima, Bezier. Thanks to its versatilty EasyNet can be used together with Mograph or Cinema 4D standard cloner or just with your homemade design pattern.

A plugin with features I have been longing for:
Super Source Falloff: http://www.curiousanimal.tv/

Now you can use any geometry (even animated with deformers) as a volume falloff in effectors and deformers. You can even define geometry as inner and outer selection.
A plugin which feels like it is part of c4d, and for 20$ I didn´t have to think twice ;-)

Introducing SymMorphy, a new tool for your arsenal.

When you need to create morphs by hand on a polygonal mesh (that is, using mesh editing tools rather than deformers and other procedural methods), the one area that proves most frustrating is replicating the changes so carefully made on one side of the mesh onto the other side. While a Symmetry Object could be used, it may cause incompatibilities if the mesh and changes are to be exported for use in other applications such as Poser, DazStudio, other 3D editing software, or as game content which may require that the vertex order remain untouched. This makes use of the Symmetry Object all but out of the question.

SymMorphy uses a plugin tag so that you can have it specifically on the polygon object for continual morph mirroring. With it, you store the unaltered mesh vertices so that you always have a clean slate to start from and SymMorphy has a base from which to determine the ‘morphed’ vertices of interest for each morph you create. Morphs are mirrored across one of the three coordinate planes relative to the polygon object and can be automatically added to a Cinema 4D Morph Deformer tag (R13 version only).

If you'd like to see what it does and if it is something you would find useful, please check out these two video tutorials (youtube) at this page on my website:

LOST A POINT PLUGIN

Lost a Point solves two Cinema 4D frustrating situations:

1) You can use a selected point of a points cloud, during P2P modelling, as coordinates reference in the orthogonal views and make new points at the same coordinates, this feature infact is bugged on the frontal view of R14 and is very important for P2P modelling techniques.

2) Now you can add points that lie along the axis without Zoomming In or Zooming out the viewport or otherwise you have to place the points in a Zig Zag way and adjust them later on.

Thanks to Lost a Point you can easily and quickly trace your references. It works with spline and poly objects.

NB:

In order to use correctly this tool the selected object must have Axis coordinates set to (0,0,0) and shouldn’t have Rotation or Scale transformation.

The plugin is available for free in our plugin shopping section*: http://www.c4dzone.com/en/shop/plug-ins-17/lost-a-point-162.htm

Burn Alert is a Cinema 4D R13/14 plugin that helps user during lighting calibration finding the burned regions of rendering.
Usually during this operation the user have to find the overexposed area by hand watching where are the white pixels, but when you are near to the correct balance it's difficoult to find the difference between white pixels and pixels under the light gray limit color (rgb 242,242,242).

Burn Alert make a test and with mathematical precision show you a White / Black mask and a Burn Indicator to understand easy what are the lights to correct.
The principle of use it's very easy:

- Setup your rendering output image file
- Launch a rendering
- Only the first time you open a new project scene file select with the Burn Alert Settings button what is the rendering output file (plugin stores always the last file choosen)
- At the end of each rendering click on Burn Alert Test to make the Burn Test
When the plugin will show you a black mask and you are satisfied with the ligthing in general of your scene you can procede to texturing and shading.

Thanks to its design you can use this tool also with all Cinema 4D compatible render engines (Maxwell Render, Vray etc etc)

You can download it for free at our plugin section on the store

Power Cloner is a R13/14 Cinema 4D plugin that implements a totally new concept of cloner tool.
Thanks to its design and flexibility it can be used with success in many fields from Motion Graphics to Architectural design.
The usual limit of the other standard cloner systems is the ability to position and control each single cloned elements. Normally you can position the clones on a surface by selecting a few options like vertex position, surface position, tag selection etc etc. but sometimes it is not so flexible.
So we thinked that joining the power of a Ray tracing system with a cloning system could be a new way of thinking cloner.....and this is what we have done.
The principle of use is very easy:
- use an object and Rays Emitter and project the rays on a polygon
- you can also control the focus of rays thanks to another object
- each ray that collides with the polygon becomes a cloned object
- you can clone any kind of object
You can use our two special emitter objects called Planar Projector and Dome Projector or you can use all the objects of Cinema 4D that are based on Polygon or Spline (Cube, Sphere, Cylinder, Polygon, Arc, Rectangle, Nside, Spline etc etc)
Of course we have integrated a lot of options to give you the possibility to control the rays and change clones position, rotation, scale and much more.
We have also implemented a target modifier that attracts the attention of cloned objects depending on the distance between target object and cloned object.
Within the plugin bundle it is included also a Spline Cloner that has got the same main powerfull features of the Power Cloner

Power Cloner is available at our plugin section store at price of 35,00 euro + VAT

FOLD IT PLUGIN
Fold It is a Cinema 4D plugin that help users to fold polygonal sheets and create quickly folding/unfolding and pop up effects.

The plugin's working principle is very simple:

1) Imagine you want to fold a paper sheet
2) Take a polygonal sheet and place it on the plane XZ
3) With the knife tool or other modeling tools engrave the sheet in such a way as to obtain the polygon's edges in correspondence of the folds of the paper
4) select the edges to fold and the polygonal area that you have to fold
5) call the Add Fold tool, an arrow indicating the direction of the fold will be created
6) set the proper size of the arrow and arrange it according to the desired orientation for folding sheet
7) repeat this process for all the folds you want to obtain
8) according to the priority of folding adjust the fold object hierarchy
9) select the polygonal sheet and call the make joint command, the arrows will be made invisible for any future changes and in their place a joint skeleton will be generated already rigged and weighed ready to be animated using the appropriate controller created by default

You can enjoy yourselves to create popup effects, fold and unfold objects etc etc.

It is a very useful tool for those who make motion graphics or who need to animate quickly and in a nice way the packaging of some boxes of products

For proper operation of the plugin and the automatic weighing of the joints do not cross fold edges

The plugin works with all editions of Cinema 4D R13/14/15 (Prime, Broadcast, Visualize, Studio) and with all cinema 4D compatible engine renderers (V-Ray etc).

Cinema4D and system requirements:
-Cinema4D Version 13/14/15
-OSX Snow Leopard or greater
-Windows 7 32/64 bit or greater

Fold It is available at our plugin section store at price of 19,00 euro + VAT

EASY CHESTERFIELD PLUGIN
Easy Chesterfield is a Cinema 4D plugin that helps user to create Chesterfield effects for pillows, couches, sofas and similar.

The principle of use is very simple:

1) Model your pillow using a quadrangular mesh by matching the center of the folds with the vertices of the mesh

2) Select them

3) Press "Create Chesterfield" button, the plugin will modify automatically the object hierarchy and create a chesterfield parametric object.
By changing its properties you can change in real time the appearance of Chesterfield.

Within the plugin you find a button cloner tool, if you need you can clone your custom button and place it automatically over the fold centers.

The button will be cloned according to its Z axis position, see video guide below for more information.

The plugin does not require the Mograph module and it's compatible with all Cinema 4D editions (Prime, Broadcast, Visualize, Studio) and it's compatible with the principal render engines (Vray, Maxwell etc etc).

You can download it for free at our plugin shopping section:

Hey guys,

we have launched http://fxgapps.com where we have a couple of free Cinema 4D plugins available for download.

There are some older plugins that might still be useful (eg. Disable Materials) and we have a PC2 point cache reader.

We plan to release more of our in-house tools there so check back at the site in the future.

Cheers,

Just letting you know that i updated my plugin distribution. I fixed some dumb errors like forgetting to include ThingsOnSurface shader. There have also been some feature additions.

Changes:

Fixed: Typo in NoiseDeformer resources

Fixed: Missing ThingsOnSurfaceShader
UvToObject

Now has a dialog gui
Allows setting the size in width and height
Option to create a camera directly facing the uv area, ready for rendering
Option to create a background plane. Useful for showing a texture.
UV matching tag will now always be created.
PointCollapse

Now modifies UVs according to point merges.

I didn't test this stuff much, tbh. If you happen to try any of the plugins, please let me know if there is something odd while i'm on it.

Cheers,
Michael

Spritz! lets you add condensation to your bottles, cans, glasses and other objects. Have you ever spent an inordinate amount of time trying to create this effect? Pulled an all-nighter? Had a client breathing down your neck while you fooled around with displacement maps and went hunting for tutorials? No longer!
