Depends on the job. For a motion graphics piece with 100 layers, AE. The Keyframe assistant is a godsend for this type of work.

For anything involving 3d layers though, c2. It's got a more mature 3d capability and is OGL accelerated.

For all other compositing, c2. The Keyer and Color Corrector are soo money.

I don't know the reason why you are asking this question, but I am curios.
I personaly like more Combustion over AfterFX. For me it was easyer to learn combustion, I like more the interface and the workflow. And maybe I like it just becouse I'm more used to it. For me it's more a question of feeling ... :)
I understand that they both work very fine. If you consider buying one of them, I suggest that first look for each one's tech specs to be able to chose the best one for your hardware configuration.
