View Full Version : Any way to improve animation playback speed?
Eudaimic 04-28-2003, 07:17 PM It seems to be very choppy, and I'm not pushing more than about 1000 polys or so. I'm just wondering if there's anything I could do perhaps to improve the speed of the viewport playback?

select bound geometry, goto edit smooth skin and 'remove unused influences' ...lightens up your character.
Be sure that the weights are working properly, because it deletes bones with 0 influence from a skin. [as if u bound to a selected joint only]
also try under file, optimizing scene size

Thank you for your advice, though it did little to increase the speed :(
I'm somewhat new to Maya, so please excuse my questions, but how do I for instance remove a polySmoothFace from a mesh? It is currently set to 0 subdivisions, but I have no need of it any more, I'm just not sure how to delete it.

Select the object, and go into the Attribute Editor (ctrl-a). You need to find the one called something with "PolySmooth", if in doubt look them over until you find one where you can set the iteration number you speak of in your post. Then hit the Select button in the lower left corner of the Attrib. Editor. That selects that node specifically. You then click on the title-bar in the Maya window to switch focus from the Attrib. Editor to the Maya window, and then hit Delete. Presto. Node gone.
There may be (there likely is) easier ways of deleting nodes. I know for sure there are other ways, good lord tons of other ways, but going through the Attrib. Editor is what I find the easiest.

Is there a way to 'collapse' a model? I'm guessing that perhaps my UV mapping and skin is slowing down my playback speed.
