View Full Version : dynamic curves and wire deformer

I read some old threads about this, but I still can`t make it work.

For test purposes I`m using a cylinder (which I want to be deformed by the dynamic curve movement). So I create a EP curve along the cylinder, parent it to the cylinder, then make it a dynamic curve. After that I apply a wire deformer selecting the cylinder, then the output curve. Everything looks allright - pulling the curve`s CVs deforms the cylinder. But when I try to animate the cylinder, it drags the dynamic curve - which waves nicely - but the cylinder doesn`t. Anyone knows what`s wrong?

arent they bound to each other now, so you'd get transform doubling? if you moved the cylinder. I thought you would have to make clusters for the CVs of the curve and parent them to a 'main' control - animating that.

In max this is what I'd do - not so sure about maya.

I was interested in creating secondary motion without having to animate it.. I thought moving the cylinder, which has a wire deformer (that is connected to a dynamic curve) attached to it would be enough to make it swing..

I think you'd have to parent the cluster in a hierachy and drive the position dynamically ala lazy constraint. Theres a script on highend3d for that.

thanks, eek! I'll have a look at that
