Has anyone had trouble exporting out of Wings.

I've tried exporting to Cinema4D R7 and FormZ 3.8 so far.

1. A 3ds export creates a triangulated mess of my geometry.

2. An Obj to Cinema4D R7 the same mess.

3. An Obj to FormZ 3.8 a ok, but some triangulation.

I am on a Mac and would like to continue working in Cinema 4D.

Saving out of FormZ as a Dxf is the closest I can get to my original Wings3D
geometry.

Is there and easier way to do this; Wings3D has been very, very good to me.

A .obj triangulated... that doesn't seem right. The format is designed to keep geometry the same (in my experience)... hmmm let me look in to this.

Wings OBJ exported to ...

Blender via belnder plugin

Ultimate Unwrap

3D Exporation

Painter3D

Anim8or

Carrara Demo

Vue Demo

and others.

If you are having lots of problems ... you really need to try harder to find where the fault lies. I'm sorry if this is not a lot of help. I hope you will take it as a sign that there should be some hope.

Thanks Markyjerky & JDex,
your feedback has been very helpful.

I have checked the boards and it seem like the consensus is,
if you are using 3DS files as an export option, that you can expect some triangulation.

I've focused on getting a useable objects out of Wings and BazC's suggestion of clearing my Wings prefs and starting over, cleaned up some of the problems I was having.

P.S:
I took a shot at Lightwave imports and they were great, no triangulation at all.

I use Wings and C4D together all the time,
and the obj export has served me well so far.
The thing you have to consider tho,is that C4D does NOT have ngon support,
meaning any faces with more than 4 points will be tesselated on import.
I generally try to keep quad meshes anyways,
so I don't usually have any problems with it.
So if you have any ngons in your mesh you might want to either run the tesselate command,
or clean up some manually before exporting...
Hope this helps some.
