its possible you could use edge extrude. but I have never gotten reliable results with it.

However there is probibly something that I am over looking.

this is were the 'edge extrude' plug-in comes in handy, do a search... you'll find a link to it's location somewhere on this forum.

the plug-in is known to be buggy, but if you optimise your points before using it, it works.

select your points and then selection/convert/points to edges.

then just hit the extrude button and position your newly created points.

aye, why would you want to use points in this way when edges does it so much easier?

i presume you're thinking from the way lightwave gets over its' lack of edges functionality with the points extender. no need in cinema, just do as jiii says. or alternatively skip out the whole selecting of points, and jsut select edges to start off with. btw different keyboard modifiers affect the edge extrusion in different ways, it's worth playing around with them as you extrude to see what you get.
