Title: Antarctic Oil
Name: Mark Goldsworthy
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop
This is a personal project I've been doing for a few weeks - a few hours every week or so.
I had the idea that about 200 years in the future mega corporations will tap into the Antarctic oil reserves and will build new super refineries to off load the oil around the world and other planets.
The ship on the left is an inspection vehicle on its way to oversee the construction taking place on the forward fingers of the refinery.
I started with a Terragen 2 render in which I had placed blocking geo created in Maya. Then I spent many fun hours painting in Photoshop.
I hope you like and thanks for looking!

Very cinematic. It would be ironic to find so much oil near the poles...

This looks so cool. I love the image... specially the camera perspective and atmosphere. Is it possible to see the original Terragen image?

Thx again for the great feedback peeps!
Here you go InTerceptoV ;
I actually did three Terragen renders so I could easily play with the amount of clouds and structure.
First render no clouds or geo:

Next with geo & terrain only :

then just terrain and clouds. THis made it really easy to get the right blend of clouds and structure that I wanted.

combined :

Everything was rendered at 4096x2303. I split the render frame in two so I had two Terragens running at the same time one rendering the left side the other the right. It took six hours to do one of the three.

One thing that bothers me is the completely unnatural looking yellow tinge. It takes away from the cold crisp feeling that comes across so well in the layers you showed. I guess it could pass as smog...
Other than that, I really like it. I'd love to see it animated, maybe as part of a larger project ;)

Great composition! I love the perspective. I agree with the others, has a cinematic feel. Just thinking out aloud, is it too blue on the left edge? Can't say.
