For my current project, I was hoping to make some bullet trails. I created a long thin cylinder and used the smoke material in diffuse, opacity, illumination and bump. I'm using Max 7. The smoke material didn't work well. In fact, it looked horrible. Just wondered if anyone has done this before or has any suggestions on how to achieve a good smoky bullet trail.

You can use Realflow or make the particles spray out of a certain spot of the bullet and make it rotate .
