hello everyone, time is against me and I need to learn a lot about nuke within the next few weeks. I am chopping through the documentation quickly mainly looking at keying, and camera mapping.

I am pondering on a video tutorial, I am reluctant to get the video from CMIVFX as the CMI Player sucks balls (I have never made it past the first chapter of the Blender Fluids tutorial). The Gnomon DVD's look good but I think they are DVD only? And shipping to the UK would probably take up to 3 weeks.

I have got use to the UI, I would just like to know more about camera mapping in nuke, and 2.5D projection for matte painting.

If anyone can spare any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi thanks, that's what I have been using (and is what the Nuke documentation refers too). I maye have to order the Gnomon bits.

fxphd has some great training on Nuke... plus you get access to a VPN license version to learn on.

Other than that, I wouldn't necessarily look into Nuke-only tutorials on camera mapping and 2.5d projection. The concepts from one app to another are basically the same, you'd just have to apply them to Nuke's tools in particular.

If you end up signing up feel free to put my user name in the referral slot!

Well I don't think you would be able to get them all at once, you just have to wait as they come out. The term started 2 weeks ago, so if you join today you'd get the two classes of Nuke 101 and 201 that have already been released this term, after that it's 1 class a week for 8 weeks (a total of 10 tutorials per class). You can get more info on what the classes will cover here:
http://www.fxphd.com/article33.html#nuk101
http://www.fxphd.com/article33.html#nuk201
Each class is at least 1/2 hour long with several going much longer than that. And just to be clear, this week you'd be getting Class 3 of Nuke 101 today (they're released Mondays) and class 3 of Nuke 201 tomorrow (they're released Tuesdays).

The benefit being that the classes are extremely inexpensive for what you get, and they are up to date (using 4.7v3-4.7v5), whereas the Gnomon classes are based off an older version. You can search for 'gnomon nuke' and find threads where people had problems because of all the UI changes since those videos came out (summer 2005). The forums are also great and much better than any I've encountered... they're worth the price alone.

Plus you get high-quality multipass miniature footage to play with, and a whole bunch of Red footage as well as other film shots for some of the classes.

I took the Nuke courses the last two terms and they were excellent, the VPN version was also great to be able to follow along and work with it (alongside Toxik and Shake). Also, the Shake 302 course is probably going to feature some Nuke in it.

It does indeed look like a good course, however preliminary production is going ahead this week so we are going in with what we have got. What goes on know will decide if I have learnt enough of nuke fast enough to land this contract.

Thanks everyone wish me luck :)
